It may not be available in theaters anymore.

I am waiting for it to come to Netflix.

No, since you will know after this email that you can ask me

directly, just check out rumors about this movie with me, aka " The

whale. "

Bonnie and others, trust me. I have been involved with this

movie for over ten years. My wife and I are the inspiration for it.

The movie is still seeking a theater distributor. Unless/until that

happens, you won't see it in theaters. The movie has had standing

offers for HBO, other pay-per-view and of course, DVD but none of

that will happen unless/until they give up on finding a theater

distributor.

Next time you hear or read an Internet rumor about this, feel

free to ask me here or email me.

Thanks for your interest in the movie,

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie myself. I'm afraid to ask

more because it would be " spoiler material " but have read the gist of

the plot etc. I know it's hard also for movies to " remain true " to

life and will sometimes add entertainment value/drama etc etc. I

think that can be harder on a person who has a high degree of

integrity/honesty and detail orientation. I'm imagining it hasn't

been easy. I don't know any rumors other than it should come out

within a few months I think? Just curious, does anyone in this group

play a role? Perhaps it's been asked before....if so, I'd like a link

in that case.

By the way, I've rarely posted, mostly lurked off and on. I find it

hard sometimes to jump onto threads. (I'm also finding the web

interface constantly goes to simple mode and won't stick on thread

mode). I suppose I could use email but I'm already feeling spammed

enough there.

I'm in the same boat. I saw on wikipedia that it's release was on the

21st already.

OMG, hit myself that was dumb way of asking. I meant if others,

(besides obviously the Whale (watcher) here), played a role in the

movie.

Ok. Anyhow, awaiting news here....I'm sure you'll tell us when it

happens. Is there anything we can do to help influence theatre

distributors? I know a bunch in Houston already have asked.(including

the person who started this post). I was misled on the October 21st

information still out there. Anyhow, thanks for update.

Well, I mentioned this in the Autadvo group and it was ignored

but MATW will be shown at the Puerto Vallarta Film Festival on

November 12th, 2005. I will not make it since I will be at a

conference in Louisiana but it is nice to know that will happen.

What name does the movie have there? Is it Mozart and the Whale or " crazy in

love " ...

How would you feel to go? I mean I guess it would be great because you don't

mind

travelling and you already know what it's like to be in the audience. I just

keep thinking

that it would be a nightmare for me.

I hope that the movie gets excellent reviews.

Can you use BitTorrent if you only have 46000bps dial-up?

You can... if you don't mind waiting several days for the movie to

download. The good news is you can disconnect partway through, so

you're only downloading while you're online; it will resume

downloading from where you logged off...

I wonder if anyone has a subtitle script to go with the bootlegged

video yet? (Preferably one that hasn't been translated from English

to Chinese and back...heh.) With my poor auditory processing, I

practically need captions to follow dialogue anymore...

Funny how the inspiration for this movie, myself, won't stoop

to stealing a copy off the Internet but others will :)

Because you're so high and mighty? And we should all follow your example?

Though I don't find that amusing...

No, it is about morality not arrogance.

I don't find dishonesty and theft of creative propery amusing,

either. Just keep in mind that whatever is stolen is far from the final

version of the movie. It was screened at Syracuse University last

weekend at an event for Doug Biklen and even that version is still

a " rough cut " in the opinion of the producer who attended.

If someone who would never stand a chance of seeing something any other way were

to download and watch a " rough cut " , in order to know what you were talking

about, what exactly would they be stealing?

You know that you wouldn't be able to afford it on DVD/Video/hologram/

whatever even in 20 years?

If I create something that is a luxury, I should have the right to

decide how I want to sell it, even if that means some people won't be

able to use my item because of how I sell it

I happen to agree with Jerry on this. The film company has the right

to say, " Hey, you want this, pay for this. " Or even, " We aren't

going to sell it in a way that you can buy it. " You might make a

different decision when you make a film, and that's your right too.

Heck, your film may even be more popular because of it - it may be

your competitive advantage. But it isn't your place to force that on

someone else. Your place is in not supporting Jerry's film if you

think the distribution model sucks or the price is too high.

As a slight tangent, I look at all the software piracy I see, with

people stealing Windows and Office. I wonder how much more popular

Linux and some of the free office suites would be if everyone that is

currently stealing Windows and Office decided to use software they

were legally entitled to instead? We might not even have the

monopoly we have today... Heck, people might be bitching about how

Word doesn't properly open OpenOffice documents, and giving that as a

reason they need to switch to OpenOffice.

Especially since this movie was made so long ago. The chances of someone

actually putting this movie on the market after all this time is

probably slim to none. As I recall it is something like 10 years ago

that this movie was made. I would probably be the first time in history

that a movie sat around for that long before making it onto the market.

But this film is not available at any price and probably never will be.

Yes. That was what I gathered from reading Jerry's posts. It is not going to be

distributed. It may have a few private showings in America but that wouldn't

help a hermit in one of the remotest areas in Britain.

I was merely asking how having their unfinished film seen by someone who would

not see it under any other circumstances could possibly affect the film makers.

I do not feel this has been answered>

Not quite. There have been a few others, but certainly not very

many. One of D. Wood Jr.'s films ( " Plan 9 From Outer Space " ,

IIRC, but don't hold me to that) went unreleased for 23 years because

Wood couldn't come up with the money to pay to have the film developed.

If I wrote a novel and couldn't find a publisher, or painted a

picture and couldn't place it with a gallery, I might decide to give

the novel/picture away. But I sure would be angry if someone stole it

from me.

If I'd written a novel (I have written a short story), or created a piece of

art, and couldn't find a publisher/gallery to showcase my work, that

wouldn't mean I would not or could not show people what I've created. There

are other avenues of distribution, one of which is the Internet. If I recall

correctly, Bram Cohen, creator of Bit-Torrent is working with some Hollywood

types to create a kind of shop, where you can legitimately buy Movies and TV

Shows for download through the Torrent setup... Movies like Mozart And The

Whale, one's that can't make cinema would benefit greatly from such a setup.

GA, " Can't make cinema " is your opinion and not yet

established as a fact. MATW will find an audience eventually. Your

gratutious insults are not appreciated.
