Guest guest
Hi . First, I want to apologize for any confusion I may have caused, in calling your husband Walter instead of Warren in my last post. Wouldn't it be grand if Warren's diabetes is not permanent - and that his glucose readings become more or less normal over time? You two are certainly working hard and doing a really good job of getting him straightened out. Sounds like he is in the hands of competent doctors as well. One hundred is the magic number ... we just try to hover around that number as much as possible. Non-diabetics hardly bounce around at all, but diabetics will float up and down, depending on how many carbs they eat, how much pancreas function they still have, their exercise level, insulin resistance level, etc. Your doctors' advice to aim to hold him between 70 and 140 sounds good to me. There are others who may prefer even tighter control. But there is always the threat of hypos when aiming for stricter control, so it's an individual decision, I feel. If Warren can register HbA1c readings between 5 and 6, why he is in fine shape, to my way of thinking. Best of success. I hope the nephrologist has good news for you two. Guest guest
Hello all Well Warren had a pretty good weekend....its seems that his sugars are finally starting to settle down. The dr did call on Friday afternoon to lower his insulin dosage yet again, from 35 to 25 in the mornings, and from 20 to 15 in the evenings. Its now been a week since he has had to take any of the Regular insulin..his sugars just aren't high enough to need it ! whice is a very good thing : ) !! He is just taking the long acting one now...and the way things are going I " m sure that will be it. But what I wanted to ask you all........the dr never really did tell us levels...ok yes they did, they told us to watch and not let his sugar get below 70 and to try and keep it under 140. But what kind of readings should you be getting during the day ? How much of a curve should there be from the morning till the evening ? or are you supposed to try and get the sugar levels to stay about the same all day long with the help of the insulin ? Ok for example...yesterday's readings were all with 18 points of each other Before breakfast 121 before lunch 138 before dinner 139 before bedtime 128 Now today look like its going to be the same thing only a bit lower...his before breakfast was 110 and I just took him his lunch and we tested his sugar before eating his lunch and it was again 110. I'm guessing this is good ? He goes to see his nephrologist next week for the first time since he seen him in the hospital for the diabetes, this is actually his 4 month regular checkup for the kidney but I " m sure the diabetes will be the bigger topic of discussion. Thanks again to all of you for your help and input. We're having to learn alot of this stuff as we go along. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
