Guest guest
Hi! Yes! Not only is she recognizing the words on screen, on the flashcards, but also if I write them down. She is truly reading! And oh my, YES, she is singing not only when the video is on, but later all by herself! And singing to every cd we have! She always sang with me, and was singing by herself before this dvd, but it has increased tremendously!! I bought the whole set and we are working on the next dvd. She learned all the words on the first one in 3 weeks! I am SO EXCITED!! Can you tell!?! At school they are adding a sight work program and well as her speech teacher also adding sight words. Just a bragging Mom today! Donna > > Hi Everyone > For those who are on the Your Baby Can Read program, Can you give us an update? How are things going? What are your child's reactions? Are they enjoying the DVD's and flash cards? Have they begun actually recognizing the words? Has their vocabulary increased? What about signing? Are they signing the words instead of saying them? > > Please let us know! > Kristy > > >
Guest guest
Hi Kristy. Well Mia just loves the DVD and flash cards. She isn't much of a TV watcher-I don't put it on too often for her, but she is glued to the TV when she hears the music to the DVD. She is not reading the words yet, but she does say baby when she sees the baby. When she sees the seal at the zoo, she says " shhhh " , because that's what I used to say to her with my finger against my mouth when we first started watching the DVD!! We watch it about 1-2 times per day, depending on much time we have, so I am patiently waiting for her to say the word before hearing it!!! Kim Mom to Mia 15 mos MDS Your Baby Can Read For all of those who are in the Your Baby Can Read program, PLEASE send me an update today! We need to include your updates in our May newsletter MOSAIC WORLD for our brag book! If you have a picture of your child, please send that to me in email too. My email address is imdsapresident@... Guest guest
Charlotte, I do not know a lot about homeschooling. Do you have to have some special training? How do you get all of the materials needed? I really do not think that Adam's mom would have a lot of luck homeschooling. He absolutely has that stubborn gene that some Down syndrome children have. Adam loves going to school and we hate to pull him out. He loves interacting with the other boys in his class (since he is surrounded by girls at home). We feel right now that because we didn't agree with the label and some of the other things that they came up with, that they are acting like he know nothing just to prove their point. Thank you for the advice. This may be an option we will have to look into. I am sure it is different for every state, but any info you can give us about where to get information on home schooling would be very helpful. I am advocate of homeschooling - of course, I understand, that it is not right for every family - my daughter did attend public school and had some wonderful teachers - but when you hit a wall and see that they are not learning - don't be afraid to homeschool if you can. I joined our local homeschool group here and have even started a special needs group within our homeschool group for parents who are homeschooling special needs children. Hope you can get things worked out. Charlotte Re: Your Baby Can Read Sorry - I haven't had time to check my email every day, so I am responding a little late for the newsletter. Still wanted to let you know Adam has completely mastered this dvd. We can even set all of the flash card out and say " Find Tiger " and he will point to it. I am really proud of him. We are having a lot of problems at his school right now. All of the PROFESSIONALS involved in his education say this is nothing to be impressed over. He is just memorizing things and can really put them into practice. I am not a reading teacher, but to me reading is a lot about memorizing things. Yesterday, we got a note about how Adam doesn't know his shapes or colors. He has known his shapes for at least a year or more and this dvd has taught him all of his colors. We practice every day - I know he knows them. This is so frustrating.
