Guest guest
Hi , I have had bumps form fluid leaks form after my TC surgery. They have not been been serious. Mine have gone away without any intervention. I leak all the time. Once in a while I'll get the fluid leak headache, but other than that the bumps are not a problem. One of the reasons you have not gotten a response may be that the Dr. is not worried that it is a problem that needs to be address on an emergency basis. When I first got one of the serious headaches I did get worried and called the Dr. up on a week end. I talked to his " first line defense " . That was all that was needed. A year later I got another round of headaches, and at that time I saw the NS. I have decided just to live with the leaks. It was a risk benefit decision on my part. One of the emails said the Dr. drained the fluid. I have not had this done, because the body absorbs the fluid on it's own. My view is why risk an infection if you don't have too. Guest guest
Thank you for your reply. This is a new thing for me and is paired with other more serious onset of symptoms. For now my PT and I are keeping an eye on the fluid etc. -- > > Hi , > I have had bumps form fluid leaks form after my TC surgery. They have not been been serious. Guest guest
Hi , My NS said it really depends on the location of the leak. If it is like mine (at the very bottom of the spine), it will not heal on its own due to gravity and fluid pressure in the dura sac, so it must be " plugged " with natural materials. I guess only an MRI could tell where your leak is coming from. I wish you all the best with that...I know how awful the pain and other symptoms can be. Guest guest
Hello Barbara, Thank you for sharing. The fluid leak is down below my incision and now crosses over vertically at L3 -- I'm guessing .. as my tether is from L4-S1. I have marked it on my back in order to keep an eye on it per my PT's directive. I see his physical therapy assistant Kip tomorrow afternoon for PT. Have been having horrible headaches and sharp pain at the back of my neck. I have been having headaches now for a few years -- and only last year began taking Fiorcet (switching to Fiornal b/c of Tylenol componant) -- this seems to help some. I've been relaxing this weekend outdoors, reading, writing ... things I enjoy it's helped me take my mind off things. Yes, we should get together sometime as you're quite close by to me. Let's chat more about that off-list. Hoping this finds you well. Who do you see at Dartmouth-Hitchcock? -- > > > > Hi , > > I have had bumps form fluid leaks form after my TC surgery. Guest guest
, I had a wonderful team of 2 doctors working on me at Dartmouth: of Neurosurgery, and Durham of Pediatric Neurosurgery. Most tethered cord cases are seen by pediatric neurosurgeons, and this is why Dr. Durham was brought in to do the detethering, while Dr. I believe had to do a laminectomy on me to get to the nerves. Be glad to see you anytime over tea or coffee! --Barb Subject: Re: Frustrated & Waiting (still) To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Sunday, April 26, 2009, 3:59 PM Hello Barbara, Thank you for sharing.
