Unfortunately even Dr's are misinformed about chronic pain. Your Primary Care

Dr. has only completed the minimum education requirement to obtain their medical

license. Even neurologists and surgeons have not completed the coursework in the

causes and treatment of pain. I just spoke to a respected neurologist/ surgeon

that had me drive 120 miles to his office where he told me he did not want to do

any surgery because of my age (29) and because he felt there was not a specific

cause of my pain even though 5 seperate Dr's have diagnosed the same problem.

Either way after not listening to a word I said he informed me that the way to

treat chronic spinal pain/numbness, tingling etc. was to keep my weight down,

exercise, and to remove myself from opiates and take Advil instead. I can tell

you the exercise is out of the picture since I can barely walk and have been

disabled for over a year. I still have a hard time believing that I am disabled

even when I got

SSI disability the first time I applied for it no questions asked. Either way I

am learning that even though a Dr. might seem as if they know what they are

talking about they might not. I have also learned that Dr's who think they know

everything usually know the least and care the least and are too full of

themselves to learn the truth. Thank you for reading my ramblings I stink as a

writer :)

Hi,Donnie,

Great to meet you ! I see you've been shunned and labeled too, and know all too

well how I'm feeling ! Judged and convicted without a jury .....I'm so glad that

Dr apologized to you ! I didn't get an apology, and in fact, I was treated even

more unkindly for trying to speak up for myself .

Thanks so much for the very kind welcome !

Thank you for reading my ramblings I stink as a

writer :)

I'm sorry your own wife feels that way, Donnie .My family is really good and

understanding , although my BIL and future SIL don't understand at all .. but

then she's a Dr and they are the most uninformed of all .

Donnie,

I get the same crap from my husband. He acts like I'm pond scum because I have

to take opiates. I said something about my pain being worse because of the

rain, and he rolls his eyes! Then when I asked him if he thought I was

imagining it, he wouldn't say a word. I will practically kill myself to make

supper - sometimes I can't even eat it because I'm in so much pain. He doesn'

even bother to say " thank you " .

I'd kill to have him give me a hug or offer to rub some cream on me or

SOMETHING!

Then he goes to church and acts all holy. I'd like to be there at the gates of

heaven when St. asks him why he was so mean to his poor sick wife! Sounds

like my husband and your wife deserve each other, heh? For those out there who

have a supporive spouse, thank the dear Lord every single day.

Didn't mean to get so carried away, I guess I just needed to vent.

Take care,

Alanna

Lotacats,

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. It helps to hear that your kids went

through it and turned out OK.

How have you been feeling? My pain has been bad with all the rain, but it's a

little better today.

Take care,

Since my new pain med the pain is better. I can't say enough for the " 'contin "

type drugs right now. I'm not saying that the pain is gone ...that never

happens. It's just easier to deal with. I'm actually starting to use some of

the exercise equipment here...like the treadmill since starting the mscontin. I

get breakthru but at least my doctor will be thrilled I'm doing more with my

poor ol' body.

Kids put in situations where it isn't all I, Me, My...is a good thing. Too many

are spoiled rotten and then real life becomes a really biiiggggg surprise. They

can only gain from helping out the family in tuff situations.
