Guest guest
Hi, My name is Terre and I am new here. First of all I want to say that I do not live in the Houston area but I am oringinally from that area as I was born in Dayton Texas and rasied in Daisetta. Of cousre any major shopping or Hospital visits we had to do were done either in Houston or Galveston. I now live in Ft Worth Texas where an Aunt raised me and I chose to stay. I do not know why it has been so hard to find an on-line group in the Ft worth area, but it has. It seems as there is not one. But there should be. They have plenty of meetings that you can attend weekly, but I am unable to do this. Until I found this group, I have been talking to people all over the U.S. and the world and you know that laws differ from state to state and deffinately from country to country. I will remain in those groups of course because I think it is important that parents stay connected and know what it is like for other parents accross the globe. But People in Cannada cannot begin to help me. In fact I know that we actually have better help over here than they do in Canada. Anyway, I have a twelve year old son diagnosed with mild to moderate Autism. He was first diagnosed at two with PDD-NOS and then when he was six they changed the diagnoses to Mild to moderate Autism. He is verbal and gets better by the year. The school does not recognize him as Autistic. They have him has MR and Speech delayed. He is in a self contained classroom or special education and he is receiving speech therapy at school. I think he needs more than speech myself. No one agree with me. He has been through times of aggressions and we have been through some very rough patches with that. He is now doing a lot better having got some help. I have to admit it took me having a nervous breakdown and being hospitalized though before anyone saw any need to help us. It was not a happy time in our family. We are doing much better now. That was three years ago. Today my biggest concern is my son's bed wetting. We have been to the urologist and done all the test. I don't know how much detail to go into on this site but if anyone has this issues or has delt with it and would like to talk to me, would you please get in contact with me? I know bed wetting is a common thing, but there is something odd about his. I just feel like I need some answers and I am not getting them. Thank you Terrie
Guest guest
Hi Terrie, Today I met Lamarque Polvado, executive director of Connections Kids, he is a source and wealth of information and empowers caregivers to find resources through networking together with both caregivers and providers. Their website is http://www.specialneedskidsdirectory.com/dallas-fortworth, perhaps you can find a parent support group through their organization and a resource for the bed wetting problem. When my son was between 5-7 and had bed wetting accidents, it usually happened early in the morning just before dawn because he would not wake up to use the toilet. He eventually learned to get up and go to the bathroom without fully waking up and turning all the lights on. R.
