Statewide Youth Leadership Forum Application Deadline Extended

Students Invited to Apply for Statewide Youth Leadership ForumTexas high school juniors or seniors with a disability are invited to apply for the Texas Statewide Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) in Austin, July 25-29, 2011. Applications also are available for mentors/facilitators and presenters. Hosted by the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A & M University, the annual forum provides all-expense paid leadership training and experiences to 30 individuals with disabilities to develop their leadership and advocacy skills.Students who are selected (YLF delegates) are empowered to advocate for individuals with disabilities and influence public policy. The four-day training program includes exposure to legislative activities at the State Capitol, meetings with state legislators and one day of mock legislative sessions.Participants will gain:

Leadership plans to implement upon return to their communities Academic and career goals A resource development plan in order to attain continued or more complete independence through technology, community support, peer mentoring and civil rights

Delegates are selected through a competitive application process. While priority will be given to students who are Texas Regional YLF and Advocacy Trainees, all students are encouraged to apply.

How to ApplyStudent delegate applications can be accessed online. Applications must be completed online by April 15, 2011, for consideration. Volunteer, presenter, and mentor/facilitator applications are also available online. Mentor/facilitator applications must also be submitted online by April 15, 2011.
