Guest guest
The mucus in my chest will only break up after I use the nebulizer. I cough my head off and my sides will hurt for days but it works. Best of luck to you. Melinda Subject: Shifting mucus from chestTo: asthma Date: Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 2:30 PM I had a cough and cold a few weeks ago, whcih has now cleared up. However, I feel I just can't clear the mucus from my chest still, which is causing me to cough still, and get breathless. Any ideas on how to shift it? I know people have mentioned certain medications and things, but some of tehm I've never heard of so don't think they are available over here. Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire... ! Guest guest
The only thing I can successfully use is Mucinex, whose generic name is guiafenesin. It thins out the mucous so its easier to bring up when you cough. Ive started taking it at the first signs that my coughing is increasing...particularly if I start coughing anything up. You could try steam inhalations..if that wont set off your asthma. I know vick's makes an actual steam inhaler that you can plug in and put a little water in, and it turns it hot. All you have to do is lean over and inhale. Hot liquids might help but for me they arent as effective as the Mucinex. If you have someone available to do this, you could also have someone cup your back...or pound it lightly but firmly..when Im sick does that to me and I always bring up big mucous afterwards. Good luck and I hope you feel better.. Ann Shifting mucus from chest I had a cough and cold a few weeks ago, whcih has now cleared up.
