Wrong Lab tests and low iron?

DS has had an enlarged thyroid over the past few years ranging from mild to fairly large. DS had the associated symptoms - tired; so cold he wears socks and hands and feet to bed; in a fog; irritable; stomach hurts...etc. Pediatrician found an enlargefd thyroid on unrelated visit and did labs which she said included "thyroid labs." I also asked her to throw in Celiac tests and a Rheumatoid factor as he always has a high positive ANA and postiive dsDNA. A few days later I got a call back saying "everything was fine."

Fast forward to a few weeks later and DS's Pulmonologist who suggested doing some extra labs. To my surprise, DS is pretty low on Iron - he's 9 and he's....32 out of 50 (low end of the range). Doc put him on 325 mg (5g) of Ferrous Sulfate for two months to recheck. Since he has Tardivde Dyskinesia, DS had a reaction so we halved the dosage to once a day. DS is complaining of dizziness and says his "heart burns" and I dont' think he means "heartburn" as he has no clue what that is.

So...I get a bill in the mail today from Quest for the original Pediatrician labs. Here's what she ordered:

Gammaglobulin (we see an Immunologist for that and while he had Ig problems in the past, he's better now);

T3 Resin uptake

Thyroxine TF

RF - Rheumatiod factor

TTG Anibody - IGA (see above)

Gliadin antibody - for Celiac

She didn't do a CBC, either....which would've found the iron deficiency. The last CBC he had was in the hospital in August......

So....she should've done antibodies, shouldn't she? Anything else? His thyroid went back down and now it's back swollen again. Is that related to the iron? Is anyone know how long it takes for iron deficiency to do actual damage? A year?

Sorry for the long post...here's hoping someone responds....
