BEHAVIOR & COMMUNICATION, Doing the Detective Work to Create Positive

Behavior Change (9 AM

– NOON)

During this session will review the

functional behavioral assessment process. Participants will learn how to identify behavioral

motivations as well as how to identify and teach replacement behaviors and

skills as an alternative to challenging behaviors. Participants will take

home a variety of “tools” to assist in identifying why behaviors

are occurring. These principles can

be applied with children and adults of all ages in home and school settings.

IT OUT, Best Practices and Employment Methodologies in

Transition Planning (1 PM – 3 PM)

How are we preparing our youth who

have a disability for meaningful work? How are we involving our adults in

career planning? Employment for individuals who have a disability,

including those with the most involved needs, is a reality. If you are

interested in learning more, please join us. Participants will leave empowered

with resources and practical strategies on how to develop jobs and provide

career planning and supports to all individuals who have a disability. Best

practice examples of students related to transition and employment will be

shared.

ABOUT THE PRESETER

Shepard is a professor, consultant, national presenter and advocate in the

disability field. He has worked with families, individuals who have a

disability and professionals over the past 25 years.

In recognition of his work, Mr. Shepard has been awarded

numerous honors in his field. He received the 2006 Retzinger Award, the Supported Life

Institute Community Inclusion Award in 2004, and was the International TASH 2002 Positive Approaches Award, for work in the area

of Positive Behavioral Support.
