Guest guest
The cellulose used for the filler in all timed release meds can interfere with absorption and effective potency. I cannot tolerate cellulose at all. So when I got compounded thyroid, I had the doc call Women's International. They use only oil for the filler, which should enhance absorption. I am finding this cellulose issue interesting. I had been taking one 100 mcg cap of compounded T3 in the morning and two 12.5's in the afternoon. I still felt hypo and knew that I probably needed to go up in dose. This last appointment, I asked to be switched to cytomel. I got 50 mcg pills. I have been having quite a bit of trouble with the pills. I have been taking them 3 times a day - morning, lunch and night, trying to take them 30 to 60 minutes before or after I eat. I was not feeling well, and even a bit angrier than usual. I had asked my doctor about taking the pills sublingually. He didn't have an opinion either way. So, I looked for anecdotal information online and decided to take the pills sublingually. I started with 1/2 a pill every 3 or 4 hours. This kept my dose at 125 instead of 150, and I feel a ton better. I am getting things done, the anger seems to be better, etc. I'm looking forward to be able to tweak my dose a little bit more (my doctor has given me permission to do this with 5 mcg increments). I did get the generic for the 5 mcg pills, and they make me very gassy, so I may just stay with 1/2 of the 50's or even cut them into quarters. I typed all of this to note that I feel a ton better on the pills versus the compounded. I think that I may have been taking too much of the pills in the beginning and now that I am taking less (due to better absorption), things are looking better. This thyroid journey is not my favorite. It's a lot of hard work.
