Guest guest
All my past PT had me wearing a leg brace on my right side. My foot can really rotate out while walking. I have worn a AFO brace and even had a custom one made that cost $10,000. All these braces do is keep the foot locked into place, they don't reteach the foot and Leg what to do. My new PTs have taken me off the brace about a month ago and showed me how to tape my foot using Kinesiology tape. This method keeps my foot in the proper position but at the same time is teaching the muscle and nerves the proper position. Since this tape has a slight stretch to it, it allows the foot to have some free movement. But when the foot starts to slightly rotate out the tape slightly polls on the muscle, sending a signal to the brain that thats not the correct movement and the foot flattens back out. Since I started rapping my foot I can go all day without rolling my ankle, even after 2-3 hours of pt. A friend of mine did this for 4 months and it had reteached the muscles and now he no longer has to wrap his foot or wear any type of leg brace. If anyone is interested I can either post or email step by step pictures of how to tape the leg. This has really made a difference plus I don't have to wear any uncomfortably leg brace. I even forget most the time my foot is taped. The tape is waterproof and it breaths so you can wear it for 3-5 days.
