Guest guest
I take compounded progesterone capsules ( in olive oil). I usually take it at bedtime. If I forget I take it the next morning. It is more calming/relaxing than sleep inducing. Have you had your estrogen levels tested? I also use a bio-identical estradiol gel. For me, the low estrogen correlated with some brain fog. Many of us have low levels of all of these hormones and if you take progesterone you may need some estrogen to balance it. Really, you need a doctor that will run a comprehensive set of hormone tests. You can order those on your own here - for example this test:http://www.healthcheckusa.com/Womens-Hormone-Profile-Comprehensive/46959/ (there are a few others that are more comprehensive as I'm not sure that one has ferritin, for example). I am not at all recommending *anyone* self-treat - having these tests going into a new doctor, however, can be extremely helpful. t can save you a second appt which is sometimes required before a doc will start treatment if they don't have all the labs when they first see you. Guest guest
She seems to be okay (there are raves about her on the Shomon top doc site, but I'm slightly suspicious of those as they all come from the same message board), but from what I have heard she is quite expensive - I don't know if you would get the same bang for your buck as one would from Spurlock. I had considered seeing her, but there are some negative reviews (more if you google): http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Dora_.htmlShe has a little too much marketing out there for me to feel confident that she's a " good doc " . And, again, the primary complaint is the expense - it appears to be at least $450 for an office visit. She is also listed as a " NO! NO! NO! " in the doctor database on the website - there's no detail but perhaps whomever saw her can share that. There is also incorrect information on her website with regards to Armour and it's equivalency to Synthroid+Cytomel. She says Armour comes from cows and pigs - it only comes from pigs. And, she notes that 65 mg of Armour (I'm not sure where she comes up with 65 as 1 grain Armour = 60mg) = 100 mcg Synthroid OR 25mcg Cytomel. The equivalency with both is 38 mcg Synthroid + 9 mcg Cytomel per the prescribing information: http://www.frx.com/pi/armourthyroid_pi.pdfEven if it's OR, then it really should be written as around 75 mcg Synthroid and 20 or so mcg Cytomel (T3 is roughly 4x the strength of T4). Guest guest
Helen,Yes, I do understand and hear that Progesterone can also cause anxiety…I had to back off of it, and just take my estrogen…I understand about Dr. Spurlocks fees, they have definitely risen sinceLast year.I know it’s hard Dr. shopping. My progesterone was low, when checked last August. However, I had been overdosed on it which caused severe anxiety. Kind of reluctant to try hormones again at this point until I get my adrenals back in shape. I did find out I am hypoglycemic in the morning which is when my anxiety is at it's worse. My fasting insulin levels (via saliva from Diagnos-Tech) was <3 (normal 3-12)That's why I need a really good dr. who knows what they're doing. I'm so sick and tired of dr. shopping. There HAS to be a good one out there somewhere that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.Helen>> Helen,> > > > Did you have your Progesterone level checked?> > That can cause anxiety, if you are extremely low.> > I am only speaking from my own experience.> > I see Dr. Spurlock.> > > > > > From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of Helen> Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 1:15 PM> To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups > Subject: Re: adrenals (and thyroid) - Need GOOD> adrenal doc in DFW> > > > > > I need a GOOD adrenal doc recommendation. Guest guest
The best thing you can do on your own for hypoglycemia is to eat frequent, smaller meals with protein throughout the day. Doctors don't tell you this because most doctors are totally clueless about nutrition. The hypoglycemia can be a symptom of poor adrenal function. Nutrients such as Vitamin C and vitamin B5 are both very important for adrenal function. It is possible to improve adrenal function without the use of hydrocortisone. To minimize the hypoglycemia, I generally eat 3 smaller meals in the earlier part of the day (i.e., breakfast, a snack a couple hours later and then lunch an hour or two later) and then an afternoon snack and then dinner, which is always about half protein and half veggies as I don't do well with a lot of carbs as those cause a spike in blood sugar followed by the inevitable drop. I still occasionally get low blood sugar but it's *always* later in the afternoon when I haven't eaten enough earlier in the day. Snacking on nuts/seeds thoughout the day can be very helpful. I eat a lot of pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts and some pecans. It's a terrible misconception that there is " too much " fat in nuts and seeds. The nuts and seeds are much healthier if they are not roasted - I buy pumpkin seeds that are sprouted and dried at a low temperature. The sprouting releases enzymes that make it much more digestible. B. , I tried rice cake with almond butter (at your recommendation) before and it didn't help any. Fasting insulin was <3 (normal 3-12). So that could be the culprit. Dr. said I was hypoglycemic but wasn't much help on how to handle it properly. Don't know if T3 and T4 lab values were total or free. I just wrote what was on the test results. Guess I can always call and ask then get back with you on that.
