Have been given 50mcg of Levothroxin by my general practitioner. Was told to come back in 4 months. Can anyone recommenda good endocrinologist in the Richmond/ Rosenberg area..? Your doctor may have not told you, but it takes four-six weeks for a new dose of thyroid med to become stable in your body. And your body may need some time to get used to it. Too much, too soon may cause your heart to race, for example. You won't feel better right away. You must take the med faithfully. It's not like aspirin, where you take two in the morning, your pain goes away, and by evening it's out of your system. Each dose of thyroid med builds on the previous day's dose. You should keep track of your symptoms so that when there is or is not improvement, you can report that to your doc. Personally -- I'm not a doctor -- I think four months is probably okay for your first return visit; I saw my current doc six months after my initial visit. Now I see him once a year. In between, I charted my symptoms on a spreadsheet. I can't recommend an endo; I never had a good visit with one. Review the doctor files (left hand column) to see if you find one who is attractive to you. But, in my opinion, based on what you wrote, there's no current reason to discard your current doc. So, take the meds faithfully. Track your symptoms.
