I haven't been on in awhile as DS had other crises to handle. DS spent a week in Memorial Hermann last August due to Tardive Dyskinesia from (a) long term psychotropic use (B) contraindicated medicines © overdose on an adult version of a psychotropic - thanks Walgreens and (d) sudden stoppage on Psych's advice - which caused Parkinson's like movement, hallucinations, etc. The good news is that we now know that the meds caused the vast majority of DS's "diagnosis" over the years and I'm happy to say that he's been one year on absolutely no psychotropic meds or anything and is doing much, much better. That doesn't mean I don't get to spend the rest of my life watching for the ghost to return...which it sometimes does.

Anyway....more info than you wanted but that brings us to today. Over the past 2-3 years on an odd exam here and there, docs have noticed a slightly enlarged thyroid. DS wasn't feeling good after Scout Day Camp so I took him to get checked for UTI. Doc found a significantly enlarged thryoid and, looking at DS, I can't believe I missed it. Granted, I don't know exactly what to look or feel for..and I've compared pics from now and not that long ago....honestly, I'm a single mom and it's me and the kiddo and I can't compare him to what he should look like.

So we're waiting on labs (TSH, antibodies). You should also know that DS has a positive dsDNA, multiple positive ANAs, and we're waiting on labs for collagen vascular diseases as we both have pretty extreme joint hypermobility, DS is nine years old and 5'4" (tall and skinny), and some interesting bone structure. Pediatrician said since it's all related go see our Rheumatologist @ TCH (who, in the past, hasn't cared that his ANAs are never below 160 and often in the 1240-1640 range).

I called his movement disorder doc at UT and they said go see a Endocrinologist instead of Rheumatologist, and we're waiting for a referral to Endo. Is anyone at UT? Does anyone prefer TCH or UT?

I'm especially writing you guys today (if you're still reading this long post) because since Tuesday DS has pretty much stopped eating. The kid who eats three PB & Js the minute he wakes up and asks for desert has barely eaten one PB & J and that would be hours after he got up. He's also not really moving much, complaining of a pretty good headache and saying his legs hurt. He's also been complaining that his stomach really hurts. Temp is usually around 97.5 with one spike to 99.5. He's at least started asking for something to drink (this from the kid who can't get enough G2s).

Lastly...if labs come back and they're fine...do we still go see an Endo?

Thanks for reading my way too long post

~Crystal
