If you are a professional or represent an Autism/Disability Organization and would like to attend to share your information on how you can help parents/caregivers of children, youth, & adults with autism or other disabilities, please contact MGuppy@.... 2012Yearly Meeting ScheduleMeetings are held at Graceview Baptist Church25510 Tomball ParkwayTomball, TX 77375North Campus Education Building7pm - 9pmChildcare is provided for free, donations to cover cost accepted!

March 1, 2012 - Jonathon Vermaelen (7pm) & Robin Rettie (8pm)May 3, 2012 - July 5, 2012 - September 6, 2012 - Special Education Law ClinicNovember 1, 2012 - PLEASE NOTE: Childcare will be provided by Desperate for Respite, but you MUST e-mail MGuppy@... five days before the scheduled meeting date to register! Your information will be forwarded to Desperate for Respite, and they will contact you to register your child. No Walk-In's will be permitted, everyone who attends childcare, must be pre-registered!Our meetings are designed to serve the Autism and Disability Community of Houston and surrounding areas. We welcome parents, caregivers, professionals, advocates, and educators. There is no charge to attend our meetings, and we appreciate our supportive speakers who donate their time in sharing information with our attendee's!

Doors will open at 6:45pm for parent networking.Announcements from area autism-disability organizations and service providers from 7:00 - 7:15. If you would like to announce your resource to the Autism/Disability Community - please check in with Robin Rettie at 6:50pm so she can put your name on the list to announce.From 7-8pm, athon Vermaelen will present on: "Diary of an Aspie Kid" athon Vermaelen (10th grade) - athon uses his humor and knowledge to help parents, teachers and other students understand his life with Asperger's Syndrome. athon shares how it feels to have Asperger's Syndrome, the difficulties it brings, and what a school daycan be like for him. After being included in regular settings his whole life, athon took it upon himself in 8th grade to write this speech to present to his fellow students to help them understand what it felt like to have his disability, and how they could be more understanding and supportive. Since that time, athon has been asked to share his speech with parents, educators and other students with Asperger Syndrome at trainings and conferences. athon loves to answerquestions from the audience to help them better understand himand his fellow students with Asperger's Syndrome, and how tohelp them be more successful.athon has presented to:Numerous Klein ISD faculty/staff in-service trainingsKlein ISD school district psychologists' trainingSeveral classes of students with Asperger SyndromeHouston Chapter of Educational Diagnosticians ConferenceMaster Level (College) Class for Special EducatorsInclusion Works Conference in AustinTexas Autism Conference in HoustonInclusion Matters Conference in Lafayette, LA andFrom 8-9pm, Robin Rettie will present on "Sensory + ADHD = Behavior"

Undesirable behavior can be supported through evaluations and strategies in order to maximize learning and social relationships. Robin Rettie, M.Ed., Special Education, owner of Lighthouse Learning & Resource (LLR), will share with parents easily adaptable strategies for home, community, and school that can make your parenting a bit more manageable.
