BRIGANCE testing has been used for quite a few years. My son, now 38, was assessed by this tool years ago when he was 10 or 12 years old. It was thought by many of those who used the tool that it would tell exactly where the child was functioning at the time; however, they found that my son with autism could do many higher level things and there were hits all over the place from lower to higher. The educators were baffled by the results then. If they revised this tool then I wonder what the new one looks like because it was then an assessment of what the individual could do and not do. Another thing that baffled the educators was how quickly my son learned a skill and they were shocked that things like brushing his teeth didn’t have to be broken down like...pick up the toothbrush, put toothpaste on...just a dab and this is how etc. He just did it. I laugh today about how things were back then and how little the educators knew. Wonder how much has improved? You all could tell me. Martha
