Guest guest
I suggest that you write a letter to the practice manager about your complaints. How much of your thyroid gland is still intact? If you have antibodies, they can destroy all or part of the gland. Likewise, environmental toxins can compromise or totally disable an intact thyroid gland. If your hypothyroidism is caused solely by iodine deficiency, then, there is hope of getting off meds. Too bad Bessie Owens closed her practice. She would have been able to help you with that. >> I thought he was not around, but his website does not imply this. I am a bit aggravated with Spurlock's office (the front office lady is really making me mad) and with the amount of money I am spending, I am feeling like I am wasting it with the level of customer service (and the fact that he had me in the back for an hour during our first visit and only talked about my thyroid and adrenals for about 15 minutes of that - the rest was about parenting?). Sigh. > > I need to find someone who feels like I can get off meds one day. Spurlock does not....> > Thanks!> Sedj>
Guest guest
I see him in two weeks and I can promise you, we won’t be talking about parenting. Any Dr. can be redirected in the conversation, gently, if he drifts off from the subject of your case.I would suggest emailing or writing a letter to Will, the Office Manager…it’s important to let them know your experience. Guest guest
I don't know if it is iodine deficiency. I have not had antibodies tested in a while but they were always nothing. The less than whatever range and nev shown in actual numbers. I have my whole thyroid. I am not sure who I would write to. And i got charged 195 for 15 minutes of his time last time since it was a phone consult. Sigh. He just ran through the labs and we talked a little bit. I just feel we are playing with meds versus finding why I have this..... Sedj > > > > I thought he was not around, but his website does not imply this. Guest guest
Is he any good with adrenals too? He is so much closer, that would so help. Going to see Spurlock means I have the 1 year old in a car or doctors office from 8:15 to 3 since I have to get the older one to school. And he hates the car (lots of screaming). I am willing to put him through it for an awesome doc, but I have not seen that yet..... Sedj > > I see him in two weeks and I can promise you, we won't be talking about > parenting. Guest guest
I was not impressed at all with Dr. Sharp. I do not believe he is as thorough as Dr. Spurlock and you'll pay just as much (if not more) . As others have said, I suggest you contact the business office. It looks to me as though you were charged for a 30 minute appt ($195). We had a similar situation with my son in that we had been booked for a 30 minute appt, but it took a bit longer and were charged for an hour appt, but that was because the doc was a bit late in getting into the room and he does like to talk about things beyond an individual's specific health issues. I suggest you fax any questions you might have ahead of time to keep things focused and optimize both your times. Also, if you really think you can get all your questions asked and answered in 15 minutes, you might ask if there is a lower rate. When I started dealing with my thyroid issues, I really wanted to believe that if I resolved other problems (e.g., lyme disease, heavy metal and mold exposure and celiac disease) that I would not need to take thyroid hormone. I really wanted to believe these alternative doctors. However, I did not start to heal until I accepted that my body needs the thyroid hormones and that if that is what is necessary to feel well, I will do it. It helped me to look at the RX thyroid that I take not as medication but as what it is - replacement thyroid hormone that my body needs because my thyroid is being destroyed by my body. I know that I have toxins that interfere with the normal processing of thyroid hormone. There's an excellent book you might want to read: Hypothyroidism Type II that explains why so many of us now need replacement thyroid hormone. That all said, you do need to find a doctor with whom you can agree with their philosophy. I'm not sure you'd necessarily get that from Dr. Sharp either. He is also a past doctor from the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue center, as is Dr. Spurlock. You might want to consider Dr. Margaret Christensen, she follows Northrup's philosophies and you might find her more supportive of your perspectives and desires. B. Is he any good with adrenals too? He is so much closer, that would so help. Going to see Spurlock means I have the 1 year old in a car or doctors office from 8:15 to 3 since I have to get the older one to school. Guest guest
Well said B, I have found that I am healing with thyroid, and had tried to heal myself before I saw Spurlock, So glad I went forward and trusted his advice to take T3. Yes, get your questions organized, and when DocSpur goes off talking, just rope him back to the main subject---YOU!That is his only fault as far as my Doctor, so I can deal with that! Guest guest
, I REALLY appreciate your thoughts. I will give Spurlock more time to see how things go. My issues are more with the front office staff. They have messed up getting my prescriptions into the pharmacy (I have probably spent about 5 hours on the phone this month for this). And the fact that when I was having the phone appointment, the front office lady was super rude about it and told me to " not expect this again since you live in the metroplex. " Dr. Spurlock was the one who TOLD me he would do it since I have to bring my 13 month old. That particular day, my husband's car broke down at 8PM the day before and we were down to one car. My baby is barely eating solids and it takes me 2-3 weeks just to pump enough for a couple of hours away so I can't easily leave his with someone. He hates the car and screams if we are in longer than 45 minutes unless he is asleep. It is an hour there, then back. It is a hard day on him. My other frustration is that he seems a bit at a lost as to my hormones levels and what they should be since I am breastfeeding. But that could certainly be true about other docs as well. Sigh. I will be more careful with looking at times and will contact the business office as necessary. I am not sure I want to complain about the front office staff since that would make this probably harder on me Thanks again for the thoughts....
