Guest guest
Barb, Have not had the time to search my files, I know it is here somewhere in my computer, but it was one of those days that I was in a hurry and only in that moment in time did it make sense to me just where I filed that item with the notion, " oh I will remember that..... " Then again it could just be my wishful thinking that there are 10 cities that exist with the least amount of mold problems.....or the wish that I had saved that list to my files....ah, there are so many possibilities to this MIA item of mine. Will try to make time this w/e to look for this elusive, " Top 10 best cities for mold. " I was hoping for an easy way out where someone would say yeah, here it is and it would be posted. Guest guest
I really dont see how they could deturmine least or most moldy states, by moldy homes reported? that wouldn't be precise. by mold counts outdoors? that could vary daily and could even depend on which way the wind blows and from where. crop states vs. non-crop states? states with tress, weeds, swamps, rivers, lakes, more waste sludge vs. less, cooler states vs. hotter ones, dirt vs. sand, rain vs. dry. what side of a mountain your on, east vs.west, north vs. south. shady vs. sunny, all factors in. our they just adding add mold counts throughout the year and reporting the highest as being the moldyest? evem if you lived at the north pole where snow and moisture kept the counts down outside, condensation and tracking in snow, burning wood ect. could lead to indoor mold problems. > > > > > > Yes I remember this one though the list I am thinking of was > specific for > > mold. >
Guest guest
, I was interested in finding if there was such a list also. Although I think the list from the National Lung Association is a good point of reference since I do believe that mold spores would be included in the particulate count. Certainly the lung association knows mold is a problem for people with lung disease! ...also particulate matter in general as group has discussed, that is so small it carries itself and whatever is on it, right into your blood stream is important indicator of good air quality for moldies. I really think someone that has mold issues, the areas with high particulate counts would be tough for them to handle. It is a factor for me I have come to realize/experience. Yes, if you find, please post it. > > > Barb, > Have not had the time to search my files, I know it is here somewhere in my computer,
Guest guest
There are some regional trends though. Ohio River valley where I am from has a history of particular types of mold activity and illnesses and is known to have high outdoor mold counts during summer. The Ohio River valley and also Mississippi River areas. You can almost predict that region surrounding large dirty mass of river water would affect surrounding areas. Then there are occasional floodings of the river banks here and there which ruin buildings which are not torn down but cleaned with varying degrees of success but continue to stand. I would think areas where temperatures vary a great deal would cause stress on house which might result in having more 'sick buildings'/or mold problems. Areas that are always in warm weather or houses that are always in cold weather may have less problems because they can be built for one season or another but homes in areas where they get a bit of both, some very hot and some very cold weather may be harder for them to be built correctly to withstand both. Just a guess on these thoughts. However I could not find a 'trend' in list of least moldy listing. Seemed random and wonder if it would be the same from year to year, and as was said what data was used to determine. --- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@...> wrote: > > I think that the situation for people with mold illness varies much more
Guest guest
Barb, don't you think raw mold counts are somewhat meaningless if they don't break it down by species? Also, many of the spres from Aspergillus and Penicillium species are so small (around 2 microns) that they tend to go right through the Air-O-Cell type traps, or bounce off the filter medium so the 'spore counts' that they deliver might be substantially lower than the real amount of spores. Also, those traps have NO WAY OF DETERMINING WHAT IS IN FUNGAL FRAGMENTS THAT ARE TRAPPED.. and particulate material in the trap when sampling outside often overwhelms the spores so that counts can't be done, making the results semi meaningless.
