Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am new to the group. I have been diagnosed with hypo and am now on 88mcg Tirosint. I'm not sure if I really trust my doctor. She told me that she does not run T3Free or T4Free tests. She said that T3total and T4total tell her all she needs to know. Can anyone recommend someone who runs all the tests and diagnoses by symptom also? I live in Lake , Texas and work close to Pearland. Hopefully, someone can help me. Thanks and I am so glad to find this group. Melody
Guest guest
Hi Melody, Welcome to the group. I left my first doctor because he didn’t use the free T3 and free T4. It’s my understanding that those tests show what’s actually going on in the tissues. Have you find the doctor’s listing on the Texas Thyroid yahoo site? It shares the good, the bad and the ugly. I see a doctor in the Dallas area. Are you recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism? Guest guest
Hi Kim, Thanks for the welcome. I live down by the coast, about an hour south of Houston. I have been trying to find a good doctor. My endo doesn't think you need the free tests. Seems like everyone that I find out about is not accepting new patients. But, I'm not giving up yet. I looked at the GoodDocs on the group page, and didn't see any close to my area. I was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago. Have you been on throid meds. for a while? What works for you? Guest guest
You generally only need to see your thyroid doc four or five times the first year and less often thereafter, usually once a year after your levels are optimized. It might not be unrealistic to connect with a doc in Austin or Houston. For years, Kim and I and others drove 6-9 hours to Lubbock to see a great doc, until we discovered Dr. Spurlock in Dallas. Note that not very many of the docs on our list are endos, as most endos do not know their collective elbows from respective holes in the ground about treating hypothyroidism. Besides our Texas Armour Docs list in Files, we also have a database where members have posted their own reviews of docs, the good, the bad and the ugly. . . . Total T3 and Total T4 include both bound and free hormone, but mainly bound. If you have any estrogen in your body at all, almost all of your thyroid hormone is bound and unavailable to your cells. >> > > Hi Kim,> Thanks for the welcome. Guest guest
The last sentence of your reply,I don’t understand…what about those of us taking bioidentical estrogen, with our Thyroid from Dr. Spurlock…I have most likely misunderstood, but please explain…Thank you. Guest guest
If we are taking any kind of estrogen or have naturally high levels of estrogen, then the Total T3 and Total T4 are not very helpful. They do not tell what amount of those hormones are free and therefore available to our cells. Did I answer your question? > >> > > > > > Hi Kim,> > Thanks for the welcome.
