Lou - statinsHi Lou, red yeast rice is actually a statin, so I hope you are taking CoQ10.Enteric-coated fish oil will avoid any side effects. My apologies if you knew all this already.Alana>> Willow, I take Red Yeast Rice and Omega 3 Fish Oil. I keep the fish oil in the freezer and then it does not make me belch.  I have had this recommended by several and my Doctor also recommends I take this....as I refused to take the statins. The horror stories are from a lot of my friends and family. > Violet (Lou)

LOL. Willow don't feel bad. If you hadn't said this I may have done the same thing. I was just getting ready to go out and look for some. Madeline http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/

Willothewispl here. I didn't know that red yeast rice was medically, and chemically considered a statin. I just knew that it could mimic one and have some beneficial effects on my cholesterol. But, there's the rub, it also had the same side effects as the statin drug. At least for me. But on a lighter note, when I went looking for red yeast rice, after my Dr. told me to try it if I wanted to, just to get back to him on it. Get ready for this, I am actually embarrassed to put this on here. This will show you how nieve I still am. Even though I am a college graduate, and like to think I know a few things, not everything mind you, but some things. Well, here goes. I actually went to this nice little far eastern store here where I live and asked for a bag of red yeast rice. They looked at me like I was crazy, now I know why. Needless to say I

haven't been back there for ages. Haven't got the nerve to go back there. Lol. After laughing at me, my sister told me, no, you have to get the capsules in a health food store or something. Well there is your laugh for today. Makes me giddy just thinking about the whole episode.

Most doctors do not know much about natural medicine. My doctor know a lot more than most but she did not mention any thing about this being a statin drug. She knows how I feel about statins too. However I will just stick with the Omega 3-fish oil.

Thanks,

Lou

Great, I always like to laugh together. I just thought of something, you know, my Dr. is Indian, and he never said a word when I told him I would go to this one store and buy the rice. I wonder what he thought? The next time I go to see him, I am going to mention it to him. I can usually say anything I want to him, and he will discuss it with me, maybe he wasn't listening when I said that, or maybe he didn't know either.

While I am on here, I would like to ask? Has anyone had H1N1,and was it as bad a time as I have been through? I m getting over it now, but it was a nightmare for a few days. It has been a week and I still don't feel very well. I'll give it one more day and then I am calling the DR. Thanks, willothewispl.

Red yeast rice contains a very low amount of statin, if any. FDA requires something like it can only be sold if the statin has been removed.

I had wondered, though, if that amount of statin could ahve that effect.

Doctors supervision won't do him much good. Most just want you to take prescription statins. Most aren't aware of the muscle problem.

If he's halfway intelligent, he can do as well just tracking his own lipid numbers.

Yes, one of my standards that I live by, is, if I cannot laugh at myself, I have no business laughing at anyone else. And I like to laugh a lot. And I never actually laugh at another person, I may laugh, for them or with them, but, never, never, at them.
