I looked into Hippotherapy at the stables that other children with DS use

and the fee they told me was $50 for a one hour 1 on 1 session - I asked her

how the other parents could afford that and she said she would look into it

for me and she did but came up empty. I can't afford anything that goes for

$50 a week.

Is there any way that Medicaid would pay for this? (just a thought...I know that

is a long stretch, but they do have waivers for expenses)

we dont' qualify for medicaid and our health insurance won't cover it. so we

take it as a tax deduction. We are on a waiting list to receive money but the

more severe children gets the money first since there is limited funds to give.

Another child only gets it when a child dies.

Pony therapy. They learn to stand, kneel, ride sideways, backwards. My

daughter was never to walk and after 1 session she took her first step. She's

now walking all over. I do know that some children even with hippotherapy still

will never walk but the love it and it does help in other areas.

Re: Grants

Hippotherapy is therapy on a horse. They have told me that since my

son is not walking now, he will most likely be walking in 8 weeks when

he's done with the therapy. I guess it really works on their trunk

control as well!

Also, thank you for everyone's information for grants!

I don't know if anyone is close to the Greater Cincinnati area, but if you

are, I know a place that does hippotherapy, and they have funding

possibilities available! There is a bit of a waiting list. If you are

interested, please contact me directly, lipscokj@....
