Hair loss can take a long time to resolve, even after your Free T3 and Free T4 levels are optimized. Ferritin needs to be between 50 and 100, despite a wider reference range.

If you have antibodies, they can also cause hair loss.

If you would like to post your recent lab numbers together with the reference ranges and the exact name of each test, we may be able to offer some suggestions.

Who is the doc who prescribed Armour for you?

>> I've been suffering with burning scalp (severe Sunburn/inflammation feeling) and hair loss for nearly a year. I had other hypo symptoms and was eventually put on Armour in March. As my dose was increased, my scalp pain got better (coincidence??), as well as my other hypo symptpoms. But my hair loss hasn't gotten better. Recently my scalp pain has flared up. Are any of you having burning scalp?>

This takes me back to 2003, when I was still on Synthroid and went to

Phoenix for a week. The air was SO dry, and after coming home, I had

extremely dry, itchy, painful scalp symptoms. I had to cut my long hair

because I couldn't stand to blow it dry, even on the cool setting.

Now that you mention it, this is one of the things that got better once I

switched to armour and got on a decent dose!

OTOH, I am still wearing my super short, wash and wear hair, because it's so

EASY!

Thanks for the email. So it wasn’t sunburn from being in Phoenix? Was your hair falling out as well as burning scalp? Just trying to understand if your symptoms were the same as mine. I am losing about 100+ hairs a day and the burning scalp thing. Sometimes my ear canals burn. Nothing helps the pain. Usually it goes away when I am sleeping but will start up after I’m awake for a couple of hours. How long and at what dose did yours get better? I don’t’ have any dandruff or flaking. Thanks for any info. I am looking for hope. The burning scalp and hair loss were my first hypo symptoms which was in 1998.

Unfortunately I have antibodies so the hair loss and scalp pain have never gone

away except for the one time I tested negative for antibodies.

That was one of the best times I have ever felt since getting diagnosed. Welcome

to the group!

I especially had trouble this winter with burning scalp when my meds were being

adjusted and my TSH soared. I have had a great experience with Head and

Shoulders Dry Scalp zinc based Shampoo and Conditioner. Really helped my dry

scalp and hair. Of course, the hair loss is a symptom of being hypo and shampoo

can't correct that.

Thank you Debbie. Where can I find this shampoo? I saw it on Anazon but wanted

to buy it at a store.
