Guest guest
, I'm glad Jillian is okay, my youngest son used to fall ALL the time, he always had a black eye - I'm surprised ppl didn't think I was smackin' him! It's really scary when they fall, I'll be an absolute WRECK when Kennedy gets up to walking. As for her eating, it sounds like just another one of those things that our kids have to have certain things THEIR way in order to do something. The control kids... I'm really glad though, maybe you found the " key " that un-locked eating for her. Now, if I could find the key to lock up Kennedy's button we'd be all set! Guest guest
& , I know what you mean about being scared when our kiddos fall. used to have a ring around the hairline on his forehead from falling, and bumping into *everything*! I was always worried about someone reporting me for abuse, too. We have had the same pediatrician since the boys were about 15/18 months old so that was helpful. We always called when there was a goose egg or any bruising. Janet Wife to Matt Mom to & (CHaRGEr) 7, nne 2, Mom to 2 (on 8/18) and who is NOT going home after all! and 1. Guest guest
Karaen, That's so exciting about Jillian eating!!! I think often the kids can't plan what to do with all the food (motor planning problem), so it gets spit out. You've found the perfect solution!! I'm wondering if cutting the Mc's french fry into tiny bite sized pieces might help and putting them one at a time on her plate like you're doing with the other small pieces of food might help? Maybe you've already done that though. wendy Mom to Kendra, 12, CHARGE, , 18 and Camille 21 portland, OR
Guest guest
F- We have to do the same with Aubrie. I give her one bite at a time. If I give her more, she just throws it off the tray. I guess she's always known that was 2 much. If I make her drink often, she does better at swallowing her food. If I just keep giving her more, she chews it but it accumulates and she ends up spitting it out. So we do small amounts of food at a time, chew it all, have a drink, then get more. I'm glad she's fine after the fall! Once the kids get mobile, the bumps and bruises begin. You've entered the next stage of childhood -- toddler! Aubrie climbed her first flight of stairs while visiting my mom this weekend. Our stairs are not carpeted (the others were) and I really don't want her to think that she can play on our stairs. There's no way to protect her from them without installing a gate. So we need to find a friend with stairs we can practice on. This is what we still found helpful for " our " 15 yr. old (former G-tube, trach,...etc) We still put very small amounts of food on his plate at a time. He has really learned to take his time and not stuff his mouth. Initially it did help getting him to drink between swallows when the mucous problem was solved. (all dairy out) Now without any liquids at meals he tends not to reflux as much. Still can't handle Mcdonalds fries....that made me laugh as they are a guaranteed throw-up, even when cut up. I think it's the oil they are cooked in? Ann
