My name is Cyndi O'Toole and I am the local autism contact for Region 13 Education Service Center (Austin and Central TX). I wanted to let you all know of some upcoming workshops we have for teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents through Region 13.To register for these classes go to: http://www5.esc13.net/index.htmlClick on Register for a workshopand Set up New AccountIf you are a parent of a child with autism within Region 13, we have a specific number of parent stipends available to cover the cost of the course. Email me at cyndi.otoole@... if you are interested. Here are the upcoming workshops:TEACCH Training - Intermediate Course (SP1120206) March 28-29Participants in this two day workshop will receive instruction designed to support the educator that has been trained and has implemented the elements of the TEACCH program for at least one year. This training could have been received from other TEACCH certified instructors, but this is NOT an introductory course. Attendees must have completed a previous introductory TEACCH training and have implemented the method for at least one full school year. Social Skills: A Core Skill for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (SP1120135) March 4All students receiving a diagnosis along the autism spectrum display have deficits in social skills. Teachers (special and general education), parents, paraeducators and related services staff working with students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) on this core skill, need updated information on social skills assessments and evidence-based practices that will best meet these students' needs. will review current assessments, discuss writing social skills IEP goals and discuss strategies for organizing social skills groups and other evidence-based interventions to teach social skills.Video Modeling: Evidence and Application (SP1119756) March 9Video modeling is an evidence based practice for students that have a visual learning style. It is estimated that 75% of all learners use the visual modality as the primary learning channel. There is strong research for a wide application of this teaching strategy for students with autism spectrum disorders. Participants will be provided an overview of the strategy as reported in the literature as well as engage in hands on practice in collecting and editing video to produce short clips. Participants will be provided raw video examples to edit into workable video examples.
