Don't over worry. The benefits are far greater than the risks. Over long term use the most common side effects are glaucoma and cataracts. You can find a complete list of side effects at symbicort.com. Corticosteroids carry many of the same risks as other steroids. Although, I have had no side effects from the Symbicort other than an increased occurance of thrush, and I will happily deal with that as it means breathing so much easier. Hi, willothewispl here. I don't mean to intrude on your conversation, but,I use symbicort. This is so confusing all of this stuff you have been putting on here. I use 2 puffs twice a day, along with my Xopenex inhaler, and my Xopenex nebulizer if needed. So how bad am I messing my body up by using all of this stuff? It is scary everytime I take a puff of any of this stuff. I really don't like taking any of it, but, I know that if I don't I will probably be very, very, ill and possible die. What are some of the long term effects of some of this stuff, does anyone know? Thanks, www.willothewispl@ yahoo.com. Oh I also use 1 tablet of Singulair once a day.

I got tested for glaucoma last time I went to the opticians. My grandad had it (I'm the third generation to go to that opticians, so they have things like that on my record), and although my dad hasn't shown any signs yet (if he does, I get free eye tests), as I'm on medication that can cause it they tested me for it too. It doesn't hurt, but it's quite uncomfortable.

THank you for the website . sometimes my eyes get watery, and a little blurry, that is what scares me. But, I am not sure if it is the symbicort or just my regular allergies. There are a lot of cataracts in m family, and my eye dr. told me that I will probably get them, but I have a long time to go before I will probably have to worry about them. Thank goodness. willothewispl

Up until a year ago, I had 20/20 vision. I now need glasses. I don't know if hte steroids have anything to do with it...Having said that, almost everyone in my near family (apart from my younger sister) wears glasses (long sighted on mum's side, short on dad's side), so it possibly was always a case of when I need glasses, not if.

My eyes get really dry, which can be a problem as I often wear contact lenses. Again, I don't know if that is steroid related or not? I think when I go get another 30 days worth of lenses, I'll have to ask for the extra moisturising ones and pay the extra money to make them more comfortable...

I haven't heard of inhaled steroids causing dry eyes. I think it's a common problem. Your asthma, asthma treatment and needing glasses have nothing whatever to do with each other.

Actually inhaled steroids can cause dry eyes as well as other issues such as cataracts and glaucoma. However, it is very uncommon. Jenn sorry to say this but your dry eyes are most likely a sign of you getting older. LOL. Madeline http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/

My eyes were damaged by oral steroids. My dry eyes (cant be age...refuse to think so!) have been linked to the hours each day spent looking at a computer monitor. Mike McBride

My eye Dr. told me I have a little bit of a problem with dry eyes. I don't really see it. But, I bought the eye stuff anyway, never have used it. Thank goodness. I know a woman that lives in my bldg, that has all kinds of trouble with her eyes, and she has been on prednisone for arthritis for many ears, she also has asthma, and I think that has caused some of her eye problems, I wonder, I think she takes it a couple times a day, she doesn't believe so.

The problem i developed was small bleeders in the macula...that is the area of the eye where all the incoming light is focused. It had been damaged due to my high blood pressure several years ago, but that had healed up. The macula began to bleed leaving me a lovely black spot in the center of my vision. Most of the time I just ignore it. If i am looking at something like a white wall, it really annoys me! My asthma was so bad at the time the neither the eye surgeon nor the pulmonologist considered reducing the pred. The surgeon told me, and this is a near quote....'You have to choose seeing or breathing, you can't have both.' Guess what...I still have both!

That's what I thought, about prednisone. So far I haven't have had to take it too much. I don't like to take it, it makes me act feel odd. My sister says I act odd when I take that stuff too. So I tend to stay home and away from the public when I am on it. LOL>

My eye Dr. told me I have a little bit of a problem with dry eyes.

Actually inhaled steroids can cause dry eyes as well as other issues such as cataracts and glaucoma. However, it is very uncommon. Jenn sorry to say this but your dry eyes are most likely a sign of you getting older. LOL. Madeline http://health. groups.yahoo. com/group/ Lungs_on_ Vacation/

I haven't heard of inhaled steroids causing dry eyes. I think it's a common problem. Your asthma, asthma treatment and needing glasses have nothing whatever to do with each other.

Oh my goodness . It is not funny, but I am sitting here giggling. My sister sent me a paint by number kit to do. Do you have any idea how many little tiny wierd shaped pieces there are to fill in on those things? I feel your pain. ROFL. Madeline http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/

LOL, your sister has a mean streak, Madeline. :)I mean, yeah, feeding our creative side is good, but if you're living on prednisone, PlayDoh might be kinder. ;) You try to brace one hand with the other, but all that does is bounce it up even higher on the Richter scale, argh!  I am so glad I'm not on that stuff any more... you have my TOTAL sympathy.

Oh, I have only taken prednisone about twice since I have had asthma. Yes, she does have a mean streak, I'll make sure and tell her someone else agrees with me. LOL. She drove me to the Dr.'s the one time I was on it, and she laughed all the way.
