Hi-

I'm in the same boat as some. With the use of LC, I have been able to go

without any Diabetes meds at all. Also at the gym on treadmill and other

weight machines. I lost about 15 lbs but have not moved an ounce in several

months. I have not fallen off the wagon, and can feel my size getting smaller

(a little) but no weight loss. Of course, the most important thing is my

sugars being controlled, so I don't dare eat carbs, and I'm grateful, but I

have 20 more lbs to go! Any ideas? I need help.

Hi Darren,

I think 40 lb. is a lot. I would be real happy to lose 40 in a year. I have

been trying to diet for years and not long ago I considered myself successful

when I kept my weight the same for a year. My doctor didn't think so but I

informed him that every year of my life I had gained weight and to hold it

steady for a whole year was an accomplishment for me.

Don't be fooled! 40 pounds is a lot! I would love to lose that much!

Believe me, when I gained 35 pounds in the first month that I was on

insulin, I know what it feels like to carry around those pounds! And I

can't seem to take them off, no matter what kind of diet I follow or how

much or how little I eat! I gained them on ADA 1500 calorie diet. Have

tried less calories, more exercise and even low carb. Insulin requirements

went down on low carb, but weight did not! Others have lost a lot that way,

but I just can't. I guess I will have to ask Ms Teri for her diet again. I

have misplaced it! It has worked for her....maybe....just maybe! Keep up

the good work! That is getting close to a pound a week...which in my

estimation is a healthy way to go! *hugs* Toni

Toni,

What I did was modify the ADA 1500. I allow myself the same number of

portions of the different groups, BUT when I make my choices, I also

consider the fat and carbs. The results have been an A1c of 5.6 and the

loss of 27 pounds. Fortunately, carbs don't affect me the way they do some

folks. For example, our Thanksgiving dinner was spaghetti with homemade

meat sauce, salad, garlic bread, and ice cream (no-sugar-added for me). I

ate a moderate serving of everything. Two hours later, my bg level was 84.

If you want more details or need me to send you the ADA sheets, let me know.

This isn't a diet. It's a permanent lifestyle change.

I WILL do this!

Carol,

My doctor keep saying he wants me to concentrate on the bg levels and let

the weight take care of itself. I don't know. I'm on a plateau also, and

waiting to see. Could it be that your exercise is building more muscle?

Muscle weights more than fat. Perhaps that's it. You're losing weight in a

sense, but putting on more muscle in it's place, so it evens out.

Please do. Teri! I'm at my wits end! These 35 pounds are driving me nuts!

Maybe it is a combination of eyes and pounds! Today, I couldn't even see

our minister clearly *with my glasses*! and I sit on the fifth row! The

teens did a pageant tonight about the life of Moses and making a difference

in the world and I could hear fine, but all was a blur! I'm getting so

frustrated!

I rarely drive these days! I have to wait til Bill is home to chop for

Christmas! Glad I did most of it over a month ago!

I have my computer *view* set to *largest* so I can read and answer my mail!

I'm glad Bill bought us a very large screen tv several years ago! I also

qualified for *Books for the Blind* because I am not able to read with out

additional magnification besides my glasses. I'll sure be glad when the

edema goes away! Sorry I'm so negative! All is really pretty good! Today

would have been perfect if not for the above mentioned! The weather was

almost wintery for the first time all year! *hugs* Toni

Toni -

Please help my poor memory. Have you been to the eye doctor? I say this

because my blind friend hasmacular degenraation which is a problem in the

retina. Had she gone to the eye doctor earlier, she *might* have been able

to keep some of her sight.

I bring this up because I'm concerned. I do not intend to scare you.

...Thanks for your concern! I have been seeing a retinologist for some

time. I had bleeding retinas. Some say that that can be caused my getting

tight control rapidly and I did that! I went from 13.9 to 6.2 after

beginning insulin. I went to the ophthalmologist and he say the bleeding.

I also read that laser treatments can cause macular edema and that is what

the dye tests showed last time I was at the retinologist. I am using drops

called Acular 4xs per day and (as Denver would have said) *Some days

are diamonds. Some days are stones! *Sad to say there are more stones

lately...but things will look up! I don't go back to the retinologist till

Jan 18, so I guess I won't know much till then.

I have dropped off of several lists because it is such a chore to answer

mail ( well, not really a chore because with IE I can get my font soooo

large that a normal person could probably see it from across the room!) But

it is a bit tiring or maybe just nerve wracking....wanting to be shopping

and sitting in front of the computer instead! Again, I say, thanks for

caring! That is what this list is all about! *hugs* and have a good

Holiday! Toni
