Guest guest
There are tests for yeast and UTI infections, although many docs will treat based on symptoms and you can get otc products for vaginal yeast infections but they tell you not to self-treat if you have never had one before. If you think you have a UTI, you need to see a doctor as if those are not treated, they can infect your kidneys. As far as I know, there should no impact on your thyroid med with these infections. However, if you are taking abx for a UTI, that can interact with your thyroid and should be taken away from your thyroid. I do not think anti-fungals that they might Rx interfere with thyroid. That all said, any infection can make you very tired as your body is using energy to try to heal, so it might seem that your thyroid medicine isn't working. And, there is some research that shows that TSH tends to be elevated in folks with severe illness. . Guest guest
Diflucan is often prescribed for yeast. It is a fluoride compound and can interfere with thyroid meds. > > >> >> > Hi, i would like to know if you have a yest infection or a urinary track> > infection could it make your thyroid med useless? and is there a test for> > this? Guest guest
Cipro is also an antibiotic for regular infections (not yeast) that is a "fluoro=chloro"- quinolone, very bad for us (fluoride, chlorine/chloride?). Suggest another if you can.....Diflucan doesn't work on me whatsoever, so I use the Nystatin powder, it's stronger than the Nystatin pills, 4 compounded capsules per day, absolutely no sugar, no yeast products like breads, and read labels, yeast is in a lot of stuff. If you crave sugar, DO NOT give in!!!!! That's the yeast wanting to EAT. ARGH. So far, Nystatin has not interfered with my thyroid, but it's low and slow. A PA told me I would have to take it the rest of my life.I thought I was cured and started eating 1 piece of toast with organic peanut butter (no sugar) $, and the darn stuff came back, so I am pouncing on it again like a bandit. Good luck!! It is AWFUL to get rid of, if it gets in your gut, that's what happened to me. Vicki KDiflucan is often prescribed for yeast. Guest guest
Yes, it often takes trying several of the anti-fungals to find one that works. Nystatin does nothing for me. Sporanox does okay. Diflucan works great for me and doesn't seem to interfere with my thyroid. The only problem with that is I get a rash if I take it too long. Fortunately, it stays in your system for a while so even a dose of 3x/week can be effective. As far as the peanut butter, almost all peanut butter has aflatoxins (fungal toxins), so it's generally a no no for anyone with mold sensitivities which are very common for folks with ongoing fungal infections. And, of course, if you have been exposed to environmental mold, then it's very common to have sensitivities to mold as well as ongoing fungal infections. The biggest problem with the mold, of course, is that you're breathing the toxins and those can cause severe neurological and other systemic impacts over time. The thyroid is almost always impacted. There is a file on related issues including toxins on the group page: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Texas_Thyroid_Groups/files/Related%20issues%20and%20diseases/And, there's a section with links about toxins (I just added a new one for Dr. Shoemaker's new website - he's a nationally renowned expert on mold illnesses): http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Texas_Thyroid_Groups/links/Environmental_Issues_001075085040/ B.
