Guest guest
Hi Sundra and all, When I am not physically able to cook dinner...my husband will throw something on the grill...smoked sausage, hot dogs, Italian sausage and make rice. He loves rice and could eat it every day. We try to keep easy things for the grill in the freezer. Sometimes we order a pizza or he will make scrambled eggs and toast. Nothing fancy...but he never complains if he has to help after working all day. A lot of days when he gets home from work at 5:30...I am sleeping and I will leave him a note with a couple of suggestions on something he can make. He will also go to Walmart and pick up ground sirloin and make hamburgers. Sometimes I feel sad because he has so much on his shoulders and I sure add a lot more to them...but he understands. I am very thankful for him and for the fact that he is healthy and strong! Hugs, Kay
Guest guest
Thanks Kay. My hubby doesn't complain either. He has been real good about it. He just usually is at a loss to know what to cook. I have very few days when I'm up to cooking and when I cook, I can't do the dishes afterward unless they wait til the next morning. hugs, Sundra Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall -- Re: Meal Planning and Food Preparation Hi Sundra and all, When I am not physically able to cook dinner...my husband will throw something on the grill...smoked sausage, hot dogs, Italian sausage and make rice. Guest guest
I have to laugh at what I do... so I'm not going to be surprised if you all laugh at me for this one. I use an Excel spreadsheet. I've uploaded a copy of one week of my list. You can see it here: http://fibromites.ath.cx/todolist.htm I plan out everything that needs to be done for the week... if I can... I'll plan out the whole month this way. Then... both and I will work from this list. Whatever can't be done on that day... gets moved to another day... This is the only way I can remember things. I plan out the meals for the whole week and make my grocery list from this plan. I leave the To Do List open and my the computer all the time. That way either one of us can check and see what needs to be done. Completed tasks don't get deleted off the list, but instead I change either the typeface, or shade it in. It's saved my sanity and is my brain. I've even gone as far as mark in... TAKE A SHOWER... hehehehe. A tip for food prep. I sit at the table with my cutting board and knife, and chop all my veggies sitting at the table. I try to do as much as possible this way as standing at the counter is just too much for me if it's more than 10 minutes. It works for me. hugs, Norah Meal Planning and Food Preparation I was just wondering how many people adjust to having this DD and planning meals and cooking. I have problems just trying to formulate a meal plan for a two week period and make a grocery list. When I do manage to get that done, then there isn't a guarantee I'll be up to cooking what I planned. There are many nights when I'm in pain or have no energy and just can't cook and hubby is beat from his job which is a very physical one. He ends up running to Walmart and picking up some frozen food items. This has gotten to be rather expensive with all these trips because he inevitabaly sees other goodies he wants to buy while he is there. What have you found to work for you? We have a family of four and one in particular is a very picky eater. hugs, Sundra
Guest guest
-I wouldnt laugh, I have a list here by my pc to remind me what I need to do around the house. I got most of my ideas from flylady, just so I can keep up on my housework. If I dont get something done one day of the week I dont worry about it, and fit it in on a good day. -- Norah Bleazard wrote: --------------------------------- I have to laugh at what I do... so I'm not going to be surprised if you all laugh at me for this one. Guest guest
Sundra, I have 8 people to feed in my house and I know exactly how you feel. I used to plan meals for 2 wks at a time. I'd do this on Wed. and on Thurs. would go shopping. I could get everything for those 2 wks except fresh items which were bought every week. Sure made life easier. NOW, well lets see...... I go to the store only when I absolutely need to. I buy extra meat so I always have something to defrost to cook (when I feel up to cooking). I keep lots of fresh fruit and veggies around. I don't plan meals for the most part except for occas. I plan for the next day. Sometimes I wll defrost a pot roast on the premise that I will feel like throwing it in the crock pot sometime in the next couple of days. It was so much easier to plan meals, but I just never know how I'll feel. I sympathize with your picky eater problem - have a few myself. About a year ago, I started telling them " If you don't like what I cook - fine. There is stuff for soup, ramen, sandwiches, frozen burritos, or hot pockets. Have fun making it. " They are also free to grab fruit or make a salad. They got used to it real quick and I don't have to worry about complaints. I still make enough for everyone, but if they don't eat we have leftovers and then I don't have to cook as much. We definitely don't eat as healthy, but I'm less stressed and I figure that making them eat what is there isn't going to make them like it anymore. Since you already know you are going to use it, is it possible for you to stock up on the frozen stuff yourself when you shop so that hubby doesn't spend extra time running to the store (and extra money on goodies)? Sorry, I wrote a book <g>. I'll shut up now. a > I was just wondering how many people adjust to having this DD and > planning meals and cooking. Guest guest
I am worried that you only feed the cat once a week:) Also you defrost ground turkey and don't plan to cook it! I am sure that it is my mistake lol. I have a palm pilot type thing which holds all my tasks for me. An alarm has just popped up saying " Dog Water " , and it reminds me 4 times a day to take pills! Guest guest
LOL... feeding the cat once a week... hehehehe.... well.. um... yes. With 5 cats... it's just too much to open cans and play referee with each cat trying to eat the other's food as it must be better and different. Soooooo... what we've done. is we have a large trough that holds enough dry cat food that lasts them one week. The trough sits on top of the freezer so the dog doesn't get into it. They eat when they want and I don't get the 3am tap dancing on my head that someone has decided that they want breakfast. It works well for them and for us :-) Sleep was just more important hehehehehe. hugs, Norah Re: Meal Planning and Food Preparation I am worried that you only feed the cat once a week:) Also you defrost ground turkey and don't plan to cook it! Guest guest
I use crockpot meals a lot. Just throw everything in that sounds good. I always make enough for two nights.....but it is just the two of us. Now that I have a caregiver I have her cut up veggies and do most of the prep. I find that my energy....what little I have is totally gone after physical therapy. I had a sewing class this morning and came home with heart thumps. Also had trouble getting my breath. So I popped a nitro, but then had two little boys for piano. Now I am sitting her like a zombie!!!!!! Love, Cam p.s. You can get recipes on line. I have a Bisquick book with lots of good recipes. While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general. 2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better. Have a nice day everyone. Guest guest
Norah, that's a wonderful idea. Isn't it sad that we even forget things like massages. But I actually find that I don't like people rubbing me; it hurts too bad but the next day I DO feel better; it's just getting through the task.
