I am looking for an alternative Dr in the Houston area. We have tried a psychiatrist and meds route but I didnt like the side affects. We have tried GF and it seemed to help and went to an alternative Dr for that but he seemed to have cookie cutter way of doing things for all kids and didnt use any testing other than some wierd thing he waved over my son. I dont want to go back to him unless I have to. I need someone who will look at my child and his issues and his needs. I want to have him tested for nutritional deficiencies and heavy metals and those sort of tests. Needs to be someone who specializes in autism disorders and ADHD.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

at $300 per hour there is no way I can take my son there. I lost my job in July and we are barely getting by. How do you afford to go see her? That is totally obsurd charging and taking advantage of parents in need. There is no way I can take my child to a Dr who charges that much. To me it seems that they are out to make money and not to there for the best interest of the children. Please provide any insight if I am wrong in my assumptions. Thanks,

I have heard good things about Dr. Pothluluri. We use Dr. Jepson at Thoughtful

House in Austin. He also does not take insurance, although gives me the

necessary forms to file. He is also about $300/hr or so. You have to put it into

perscpective. If you go to your traditional family doctor, a 10-15 minute

appointment, he bills you (or your insurance) $80-120 for that 15 minutes. That

means his rates are more like $320-460/hour.

I know it is expensive. But I can say that it has been worth every penny to the

quality of my son's life ( and ours as a result). The treatment is

individualized and very caring.

I have heard that Dr. ( I think his forst name is Kendall) in Austin

takes insurance, but do not know for sure. I have heard people who like him and

others who don't.

Yes, Dr. takes insurance. I like Dr. very much and my son has made big gains in his sensory system language and hyperactivity levels. My son also sleeps well now and is on no prescription medications other than a tiny bit of Clonidine that I am fading out. My out of pocket to see Dr. is minimal around $50 I think per visit. This is also the office where I am seeing Dr. Womack and I'm even taking my husband to see her to try to wean him off Zoloft by adjusting his overproduction of Testosterone.

Previous to Dr. I had seen 7 different DAN doctors including Dr. Rao. My son Matt has made more progress with Dr. than all of them combined. Dr. can be prickly at times he is very direct but it's easy to see why you might get frustrated as a doctor when you know the answer and you spend every day convincing people to trust you. I'm sure I was the biggest pain in the butt ever. I don't believe anything until I see it with my own eyes. Same goes for recovered children by the way. I will not say my son is recovered until he can live independently and has a job and can communicate in some fashion expressively with anyone. I would expect nothing less from any parent who claims their child is " recovered or has lost a diagnosis of Autism " . Just my opinion naturally.

I agree with . " Regular " doctors are just as expensive and sometimes more.

The difference here is that you have to pay out of pocket and then seek

reimbursement. The reason why these doctors have to do this is that many

insurance companies do everything they can not to pay for these services and the

providers would end up not getting paid. It is one more thing for us parents to

have to do to advocate with the insurance companies to get our money back.

I am very sympathetic to your situation. But, I just want you to know that Dr.

Pothuluri is a very kind person. She has a family member on the spectrum and

that is why she does what she does. She does everything that she can to be

conscious of the cost if money is an issue.

Best wishes to you...

Hollie
