Guest guest
Hello, Well, since lately the hottest subject on here is prescription M & M's I thought I'd take this opportunity to throw out a question ).As many of you know, I just recently had my second AN removal. During both procedures my facial nerve was stretched, but not severed. Since this was done I do have " temporary facial paralysis " (what DR's told me) and my face has been coming back S L O W L Y on both sides. When it happened to the first side I lost the ability to tear in that eye. Since the other side went bad too, I can't do anything (crying). It's extremely frustrating to learn sad news that upsets you, and you can't cry! So my question finally is, my face is coming back, but my tears probably never will?? Let me know because I know there's a few of you out there in this situation or have been. I'd appreciate any info or insights ). Thanks and I'd agree with Jimmy, the new crispy M & M's are awful! in AZ
Guest guest
my left side doesnt tear, thats because the facial nerves were cut, and then fixed with the nerve graft but it never tears... the right side however has a mind of its own and tends to tear any time i take a bite of food!!!!! the nerve on that side, like yours was stretched and it took about a year for the tears to come back but they are back and sometimes lead to very embarrassisng moments.. make sure you do facial exercises. even tho they might not show it will eventually improve your face much faster and much better...i can smile now, not like before but i can smile the only thing i can not do, on either side, no matter how much i had practiced for 2 years everyday, i can not move my eyebrows!!!!! Caren who cant frown either but im always laughing or smiling so who needs to frown!
Guest guest
Caren, It's good to know that your face has improved! I just wanted to write and ask you a little question since I know you're a fellow ASL user. I can't move my eyebrows either and I've noticed when I'm signing and asking a question people find it hard to understand, i.e. " are you telling me or asking me? " I'm sure you get what I mean. So how have you gotten around that?? thanks for the advise!

Guest guest
, Two years ago I had an AN removed and my gacial nerve was cut but spliced back togeather. In that eye, the right side, it won't cry when my other eye does but it will water all day. I imagine it looks pretty stupid with tears pouring out of one side while the other side stays dry. Oh ya, for me gummy worms do the trick. I never go to surgery without my gummy worms My two cents, Josh Josh Ransom
Guest guest
, I have the same problem. My facial nerve was never cut but I still ended up with facial paralysis and the inability to tear. It scared me cuz I wondered how I would cry when somebody I cared for died. How could I grieve? Well, I got the answer on May 25 when my brother (18 months younger) died. (He did not have NF2 - was very healthy). I'm STILL crying, but no tears come. Its wrenching dry sobs but its all I can do to get the emotions out. I considered flooding my eyes with artificial tears when I felt the need, but I really don't PLAN to cry, ya know? Take care, -Pat
Guest guest
Pat, So sorry to hear about your brother!!!!! That would be so hard to go thru. That was exactly my thinking (about the crying). I can say that I didn't want to hear that answer just because of the simple reason that you had to go thru that pain to find out. I'm sorry Pat ( I hope the dry crying helps get out the grief though, I know it helped when I cried before. You're in my thoughts tonight. hugs,
Guest guest
Since my second AN I have had no tears, meaning can not cry. I use artificial tears, I was told that it may be okay in time, but that was over 4 years ago, the nerve was damaged on that side but has shown signs now of recovery but not in relation to dry eye or problem. On the other side I have a nerve graft and there are no tears at all, and I do not expect it to have tears in the future. I often say that the one thing I hate about dry eye is I can't cry, it is sad when an occasion arrives and people don't realise you are upset as you are not crying, but I tell people why I can't cry and they see I am upset but it does annoy me. The problem with eyebrows in relation to Sign Language (BSL) I have similar difficulties if not the same as mentioned as they don't move so the expression isn't the same as it is with others, that can be confusing. Guest guest
Hi Pat, I am so sorry to hear of your brothers passing, you have my sympathy on your loss. I also do not make tears and was concerned about what I would do and what people would think when my husband would die,he had terminal cancer, for two and a half years. When he passed away 5 years ago I was ver self concious of the fact that I made no tears and it looked to others as though I wasn't crying. Two years ago an opthmologist put plugs in my tear ducts, now I have tears, sometimes when I don't want them, but it does feel good to have tears again. Guest guest
Hi , I had the same problem even though my face is not to bad now ,it took time, but you are right the tears did not return. I had many vision and eye infections because of no tears,so approx 6 years after the last surgery my eye doctor sent me to a larger city to a teaching hospital and they put plugs in my tear ducts. Works great now I have tears, sometimes when I don't want them ,but it is helping to save my vision. Also have tears really cuts down on the use of artifical tears. > tears > > > From: Misha64@... > > Hello, > Well, since lately the hottest subject on here is prescription M & > M's I thought I'd take this opportunity to throw out a question > ).As many > of you know, I just recently had my second AN removal.
