WE ARE CALLING ALL MEMBERS OF ADA TO CONTACT THEIR

REPRESENTATIVE TODAY IN SUPPORT OF H.R. 3162, THE

CHILDREN'S HEALTH AND MEDICARE PROTECTION

(CHAMP) ACT.

The House of Representatives is scheduled this week to

consider H.R. 3162, the Children's Health and Medicare

Protection (CHAMP) Act. ADA is in strong support of

this bill because it contains two very important

provisions, one dealing with expanding the MNT

provisions and one concerning Medicare reimbursement

rates.

We are asking you again to contact your US

Representative today and encourage him or her to vote

for H.R. 3162 as reported from the Ways and Means and

Energy and Commerce Committees. PLEASE ACT TODAY!!

Section 201 is titled Coverage and Waiver of

Cost-sharing for Preventive Services. This section

lists several Preventive Services including MNT. It

also gives Medicare the authority to provide MNT for

any disease or disorder that is considered preventive.

This should allow Medicare to cover conditions such as

hypertension, dyslipidemia, overweight, pre-diabetes,

& OTHERS. This section would go into effect Jan. 1,

2008.

Title III of the bill reforms the methodology of how

Medicare determines the reimbursement rate for

physicians and, as a result, RDs. Under the current

formula, reimbursement rates will drop in January by

almost 10%. The bill would require an increase in

rates of 0.5% in 2008 and 2009.

Time is of essence. BECAUSE THE VOTE IS THIS WEEK, WE

ARE ASKING YOU TO CALL -- NOT WRITE OR E-MAIL -- YOUR

REPRESENTATIVE TODAY. If you need to determine who

type in your zip code on the top-left of the

page where it says " Find Your Representative. " The

number at the US Capitol is 202/224-3121. Call that

number and ask to be connected to your

Representative's office.

constituent and that you support passage of H.R. 3162

as reported from Committee
