The Hurricane Katrina evacuee and asthma sufferer has tried to make a home out of the Park at Lakeside apartments in Southwest Houston. But mold has been a persistent and unwelcome guest. Phyllis Riley lives in the same complex and she has mold on her walls and bathtub. " I've been fighting with the front office to fix this stuff since last August, " said Riley. She said nothing has been done to fix the problem. In fact, more than a dozen tenants living at Riley's complex reportedly have similar complaints. The apartment complex houses more than 300 Katrina evacuees. Management says it responds to every maintenance request in a timely fashion. Local activist Pernell Herbert says that's not the case with the tenants he's met. " It's unreal that people could actually be so greedy to bring people in, to put them in this type of situation. Basically holding people hostage. " People like Fannie who would like to move out, but still have months remaining on their leases. Within minutes of when 11 News first reported the problems apartment managers called to say they would be making emergency repairs to all the units featured in this story.
