Guest guest
On this list earlier today there was a long article about the recommendation to close some state funded institutions. I'm willing to bet anything run by the govt is sucking money in like a big black hole and calling it progress. There is no reason why in my opinion a little respite and homes that care for 4 to 6 persons with DD or Autism or whatever can't be run responsibly and less expensively than a huge institution. I also was surprised to learn that institutions not only take in people with MR, DD etc but convicted felons claiming to have committed crimes due to a mental disability. Even juvenile offenders. So a gang member could be in a home with our most fragile populations? Are you kidding me? In my opinion the way the state spends dollars on those with special needs is itself in need of a major overhaul. Where on earth is 85 MILLION dollars going in the first place? Trina I spoke with my MHMR service coordinator and was told that it is proposed that Health and Human Services be cut $85 MILLION - which means that my kids who have been on the HCS waiting list since 2002 can just wait some more. I was hoping that their names would come up before January just because I knew that the legislature would be in session and this was a real concern. Of course they are just getting started - maybe it won't be this bad or maybe it will get worse. Anyone else hear anything? I can't even get a hold of my representative and my senator referred me to someone else who's district I'm not in but did say that yes that was a recommendation. Guest guest
I may be totally off with this but I was under the impression that input on this vote had to be submitted by 1/11.
Guest guest
My representatives office didn't say that - I was told to tell others to call their reps just like I did and that was late this past week. The budget hasn't been finalized - they are just starting - it should continue for quite a while, yet! > > > > I may be totally off with this but I was under the impression that input on this vote had to be submitted by 1/11. >
