Guest guest
I need an ADD/ADHD evaluation for my six year old son who is in first grade. We live in Palacios, Texas. We are looking for a doctor in the area, (Houston is not too far to travel), who will do a thorough evaluation. Any ideas?

Guest guest
Thanks. Did you use him? What were your first impressions?Subject: Re: need an ADD/ADHD evaluationTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Tuesday, January 25, 2011, 6:27 AM If you have to come to Houston, I recommend Dr. on at the Childrens Learning Center ( Institute ?) at University of Texas.... > > I need an ADD/ADHD evaluation for my six year old son who is in first grade. Guest guest
Yes, we used him. We went in expecting a definate diagnosis of ADHD. However, he identified other areas that were deficient and other problems I would have never suspected ( Asperger's, non-verbal learning disorder, short term auditory memory) that knowing about has been invaluable in getting him help, understanding him, and getting accomodations at school. He will medicate if you want or not medicate if you choose ( we chose not to medicate). He patiently answered all of our questions. Guest guest
Great advice on the developmental pediatrician. For ADHD, the one thing I would add is having him checked by an ENT (ear, nose, and throat doctor) and maybe doing a sleep study to check for sleep apnea. There's quite a bit out there on the subject. To get you started, here's an item in NurtureShock discussing a link between ADHD and tonsil & adenoid removal. Sorry I don't have time to look for more links. I also remember that as kids get older there is less difference in ADHD after surgery, implying is less reversible as time goes by. Yes, we used him.
