I am never sure of the age of group participants. I usually direct my comments to the typical type 2 diabetic, who is past 40 or 50, fighting weight gain, and is insulin-resistant. A recent study discovered that 91 percent of older Americans had too much iron in their systems. The only people who need iron today are menstruating women, it seems, because of the marketing ploy of loading so many foods up with iron. (One report said one cereal had so much added iron that you could move pieces around in milk using a magnet.) It's hard to find a multi-vitamin without iron. I buy Centrum Silver. Also, a leading supplement company I have dealt with for years carries a special multi-vitamin without iron, thanks to my nagging. You can find them at http://www.puritanspride.com They always offer either a 2-for-1 sale or 5-for-2 or even 3-for-1 sale, and I have never been disappointed with their products or service. Since hemochromatosis (excess stored iron) is the most common inherited genetic disease, and since hemochromatosis causes 10% of all diabetes as well as other serious illnesses and even death, we need to be aware of it. I have excess ferritin (stored iron) levels. Ferritin levels don't have to reach the hemochromatosis level to cause a health problem, according to at least one national hemochromatosis group. I have a " complete iron panel " done every so often. Susie
Guest guest
Alpha Betic is a multi-vitamin and it does not contain iron. It is available at Wal-mart. You can go to http://www.alphabetic.com/ and click on SUPPLEMENT FACTS to get a listing of what they contain.
