Guest guest
Hi Everyone IMDSA has been in contact with a company called Your Baby Can Read. http://www.yourbabycanread.com/ This company has DVD's geared to baby's and preschoolers to help them learn to read not only by site but also by phonics. They sent me their Starter kit which included the first DVD and some really great flash cards that have the word then you slide out the side of the card and it has a picture of the word. It takes a whole lot for me to be swayed to promote a product of any kind. But, I was very impressed with this simple video and I can see the potential for children with MDS to not only learn to read but also improve their verbal communication skills! I have read a few testimonials from parents of children with Down syndrome and these parents were very impressed with the DVD's. They said that their children were learning from them and they were recognizing the words without the pictures within just a few months! After speaking extensively with the company's representative, I told her that parents of children with special needs would be more apt to purchase a product like this, than parents of children with typical development. The company fully agrees and wants to promote this product to families of children with special needs. But first, they need some testimonials from the parents. The company would like to send a starter kit at no cost to the following age groups. Keep in mind that this will probably begin in Feb, so think about how old your child will be then. You will need to watch this video with your child at least once a day but I think twice a day is recommended when beginning. You need to be able to mark reactions of your child while they watch the video. The starter kit will be yours to keep and then if you want to purchase more DVD's after you see how your child is doing with them, you can get them at our Usborne Books representative's site. http://www.ubah.com/ecommerce/main.aspsid=V0259 & gid=10449190 & afid=AFF0 442 When you purchase books through this site, IMDSA will receive 10% of the sales. So, not only are you helping your child, you are also helping IMDSA! If you are interested in receiving a free starter kit and sending your feedback on how your child does with the video, send me your name, address and how old your child is to imdsapresident@... We need the following age groups: 2) 8 mo olds (2) 1 yr olds (2) 2yr olds (2) 3yr olds (2) 4yr olds (2) 5yr olds. Thanks! Kristy
