Guest guest
Good Friday morning to all! My husband moves our family around the country frequently with relocation and I've decided to consider an online business so I don't have to try and find a job for sometimes only a year at a time. Any advice anyone can give me to get started would be great. I have a strong culinary interest and have had the advantage of being a certified personal trainer as well as working in a wellness facility. I only work part-time now, and with a young family with one on the way, I want to keep any business I develop to just a part-time basis. Thanks, in advance, to anyone who can help. Guest guest
You may want to consult with Margie Geiser, RD. She's also a personal trainer, but does a significant amount of work via telephone coaching. Coaching skills are really the next thing any RD working with clients should learn (I have plenty more to learn in this area!) Check her out at _www.megfit.com_ (http://www.megfit.com) Check out RDs that have their own websites! Interview them! Some are even providing opportunities for other RDs to market USING their websites! I've managed to work from home, nearly fulltime, for 2 years now! Took a while to get it to that. I moved to the mountains 8 years ago. 30 miles from the nearest grocery store/gas station, so went " looking " for work online. (I've got 6 inches of SNOW on the ground this afternoon, by the way!) Managed to find wonderful work with a great company. Via telephone, IM, email/efax, conference call, 3 way calling, PowerPoint, speaker phones and occasional travel, I'm able to do most everything I do from a home office. Client counseling, web writing, consulting, training/inservicing RDs, physicians/office staff, sales, marketing, magazine writing . . hmmm, probably a few other things as well. My presentations at conferences/state meetings? For that, I DO have to get in my car/on a plane and travel! ;-) So, it's out there. . . but takes some sleuthing. With gas prices at $3.00/gallon and the sad state of our air quality, it only makes sense to work from home if you choose/can. Jan Patenaude PS. Do check out the NE dpg. . . Hey, besides coaching, how about recipe development? Work for a website or newspaper that desires your culinary/RD skills? Develop a syndicated culinary/health newspaper column if you write too?
