Guest guest
Hi , As I was reading your post I kept thinking that they needed to put you on a Holter monitor but then you said they did. I would think that when you get the results of that you might find out what is going on. If not then I would think you would probably need to be in-patient so they could monitor you more closely. As far as the palpitations you are having, I know that they can be really un-settling. It is better to be safe than sorry so if you do have any chest pain I think you should go directly to the hospital and maybe even without the pain. As I'm sure you know heart attack symptoms in women are very different than in men and sometimes are asymptomatic. Keep us posted. LIVE AND LET LIVE RITA Subject: Heart palpitations To: Hugs-N-Pain Date: Sunday, August 24, 2008, 6:12 PM Hi everyone - As an update if you remember I had issues with my leg. I have been going in and talking to the PA and really getting nowhere. Well the last thing was the PT. My doctor wanted me to go to PT before I see him on the 18th of September. So I called PT and they can't even get me in until September 25th! SO I called the pain clinic again to discuss this and talked to the nurse. She just asked if I wanted to keep my appointment on the 18th. Well of course i do since I haven't seen him in 4 months! But I asked how I can go to PT when there is no diagnosis?? She didn't have alot to say about that but did say that when I see the doctor on the 18th, I should really push him for answers. SHe also eluded to the fact that CRPS may be spreading to my leg. I am starting to believe that as well. Last night I was up until after 5am because I had horrible burning in my leg. I have also been getting pins and needles feeling in it. There was a short time last night that it was uncomfortable to have the covers on the leg. I won't say it was extreme pain but it was uncomfortable. I am so frustrated with all of this. But wait, there's more. I have a history of SVT which is supraventricular tachycardia. In other words, my heart would beat really fast due to extra passage ways in my heart . So I had a cardiac ablation to get rid of the extra passage ways. This was done twice since the first one did not succeed. The last ablation was done in 1995, so I have not had problems since then. Well a couple of years ago I felt a different heart sensation. It felt as though my heart skipped a beat. I called the nurse on call (since it was night time) and they told me to go to the ER right away since I have previous heart issues. Well I went but of course it woudln't do it at that time. Nothing more ever came from it. Over the years I'll feel it here and there but nothing that lasted long or was a huge worry to me. Until lately. Recently in the last few months, it has been occurring more and more frequently. So the point that I am now on day 4 of it happening. It happens all the time from the minute I get up to the minute I go to sleep. Which is also part of the reason I was up last night. I did go to the doctor on Friday (PCP) and they did an EKG which lasted 30 seconds so it was missed. The doctor did feel the pause in my pulse so she knew that something is definately going on. She ordered another EKG where they run it longer but the nurse didn't do something right and then ran out of paper, so they couldn't catch it. It did show some abnormal T waves, but she didn't make anything out of that! So she ordered me to wear an event monitor. I should hopefully hear something from the company with the monitor on Monday. I have worn one in the past when I was going through my SVT. She thought that maybe I was experiencing PVC which is premature ventricular contraction which everyone goes through at some point or another and it usually isn't a worry problem. What I am concerned with is the length of time it has been going on. I asked her when I was there if it was normal for it to go on this long and she said that people sometimes have episodes and thought that it would stop this weekend. Well it has not stopped yet. I have looked up information about PVC and can't find anything about it lasting this long. I guess I am concerned because of the length of time that is is going on and that I have previous history of heart issues. I am already on Atenelol which is used to help this so obviously that is not helping. I don't knwo what to think. I don't have chest pain with it but a bit of shortness of breath. Last night I was having some chest pain but it went away which is why I didn't go in. I am just wondering if someone is familiar with this at all and has any information? I plan on calling the doctor's office again tomorrow if it is still going on. I am afraid she is going to put me in the hospital since she mentioned it on Friday. It wasn't her first choice and it wasn't my first choice so we didn't go that route. Thanks! Sorry it got so long.
Guest guest
, Maybe you should call your doc on call tonight? It sounds like you might need to be inpatient so they can figure this out. And since it's been going on for 4 days now, seriously, I'd call my doc now. ~Tommie~ www.myspace.com/tommiejj PH, CFS, FMS, Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, Restless Leg Syndrome Don't waste energy second-guessing what you're missing or what can go awry. Guest guest
..I agree with you going to the ER,and tell then you have been having chest pains..they'll take you right on back, and if they dont,I wouldnt go to that ER. I wouldnt imagine you have been having PVC's for 4 days straight, but you never know. I had been doing the same thing (and I worked on the cardiac floor) they put a Holter monitor on me. They didnt catch it. That was 9 years ago..they finally caught it, when my heart sped up to 200 beats a minute, and after sustaining a heart rate of 187 for 2 hours, I went to the ER, and they had to chemically defibrillate me. I have PAT's.. I can tell when its going to start, cos it feels like a mule kicked me in the chest, and I cant breath, either. DO this old cardiac nurse a favor, and run, dont walk..well, get in the car and head out for your nearest ER...and let us know how you come out...hugs and blessings, Vicki,RN, Texas Tommie wrote: , Maybe you should call your doc on call tonight? Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. Yes I probably do need to go in. The nurse and doctor did tell me that if I have chest pain, arm pain, lightheadedness, etc then I need to go to the ER. My doctor thought for sure it would stop this weekend but it hasn't. I feel it now as I sit here typing. I no longer have the chest pain. It happened for a while last night when I was in bed but then stopped. I don't have a rapid heartbeat. I had that in the past with the SVT. My heartrate would get up to 200 beats per minute. That is what I had the cardiac ablation for. Actually when the EKG was done, my heartrate was 61. So not tachycardic at all. It just feels as though that it is skipping a beat. If you were to feel my pulse, you would feel - beat beat beat pause beat beat beat pause beat beat beat etc. In my chest I feel like a flop when that occurs and then a rush to my head. I am not lightheaded at all. All the symptoms I have sound like PVC's, however, I can not find ANY information about it occuring for this long. Yes this is my 4th day in a row. It started on Thursday morning around 10am and has not stopped since then. I counted how often they are occurring. Sometimes it's 2 times per minute, other times it will be a few minutes with none. But typically I have at least a few every five minutes or so. Like I said it's constant. I have not had a break from it over the past 4 days. Which is why I am surprised that they didn't catch it while I was there. The first EKG was only 30 seconds long. When the nurse did the paper one, well she would run it and then turn it off. I swear one time when she turned it off, it happened. But like I said my doctor felt it when she was palpating my pulse. I am not getting a Holtier monitor, I am getting an event monitor. So I will wear it for 2 weeks instead of 24/48 hours. She first mentioned the Holtier monitor, however, I refused becasue I figured it may not happen if I had it for a short period of time. When they were trying to diagnose my SVT, I had a monitor for 30 days. So I told her about that and she agreed but decided on 2 weeks. Basically when it occurs, you hit a button and it will record. It ends up recording the 60 seconds prior to you pushing the button as well so that they can see what leads up to it. Then you call a number and they will record it over the phone. You wear it at all times, sleeping, etc except for showering. Thanks again for the advice. I am hesitant to go to the ER only because I have a 3 year old here that I don't want to take him with. I also am afraid I " ll get there, sit for five hours and have them do nothing more than what my doctor already did. I know I probably sound really stupid for saying this and should go in so please no flames for that. My husband has been pushing me to go in as well so I am sure he is going to win this battle. I'll update everyone when I know more. I really do appreciate all the advice and realize I need to get in. Maybe I'll start with calling the doctor on call first and if they recommend me going in, then I " ll go. I am going to call my mom as well who is an RN, although Vicki I am glad you posted being a cardiology nurse. That helps me out alot! ---- Vicki Hannon wrote: > ..I agree with you going to the ER,and tell then you have been having chest pains..they'll take you right on back, and if they dont,I wouldnt go to that ER.
