Guest guest
> I had a conference with Putter's new teacher and his old teacher this morning. I invited Lou to attend because otherwise I figured he'd go on his own sometime and who knows what he would say. I'd rather have him under my eyes, well, actually I avoid looking at him, but surely you know what I mean. Oh yes. > > Putter is doing very well in the new classroom; he is there for fully half the day. The school feels he learns better in the classroom than he does from ABA and hopes to transition him fully to that classroom in January. At this point, given what I have seen of his big language burst, I do not disagree. > They said that they wanted to make sure he got good classroom skills because they consider he has an excellent chance of going to regular kindergarten and regular ed. Great news!!!! > Hooray! Oh, I imagine he will need supports and aides for a bit yet, and I am aware of the different difficulties facing autistic kids in regular ed where no one " gets " them. But still this is the outcome we hope for, isn't it? That he will be able to make it on his own in a normal situation. Yes I suppose. Do they actually do that up there? We're so far behind. I can't imagine Boone in a classroom without an aide anytime soon. That would require sitting, listening, following directions etc., I can't imagine Lee County springing for an aide either. I guess I should start asking about inclusion now, since I'm sure it will be a long and stress-filled battle. Sissi

Guest guest
Of course it is. I hated when teachers called me by my real name. Sometimes I'd look around the class to amke sure they wern't talking to someone else. If someone calls here asking for me by my real name, I know they don't know me and I don't know them. You know what I mean? Sissi Re: Putter's conference > > > > I had a conference with Putter's new teacher and his old teacher this > > morning. Holy crap! This is great news! What leaps Putter has made!!!! Remember when you were convinced he'd be non-verbal into adulthood??????? > Hooray! Lou's only real comment was to ask if we could start calling him Xavier as he really likes that name. Putter, he says, is a baby name and the name his mother gave him, and is Putter going to have problems learning his proper name. I expected this was coming as when I sent the email to Lou about the conference, I entitled it " Putter's conference, " but Lou called him Xavier in his reply. He has never called him Xavier before. Now I actually like Xavier also. But I have also observed that Putter learns fast and does learn more than one name for the same thing with relative ease (many kitty names, it's just that people are so much less important!) and I do not think this will be a big problem. Neither did the school; the two teachers spent less time discussing it than Lou probably hoped. I am sure it is a new complaint of Lou's...
