LIsa,

That's great news! I for one, do understand the importance of those

milestones that may be small for some children, but huge for ours....

Low-carbing is what has improved HDL, triglycerides and cholesterol for me,

Bill.

Here are some numbers:

1988 1994 1995 1998

1999

HDL 38 45 63

57

LDL 93 87

76

choles/HDL ratio 4.3 (H) 4.3 (H) 3.2 3.0

triglycerides 226 (H) 650 (H) 274 (H) 259 (H) 170

total cholesterol 231 (H) 228 (H) 193 202 169

I added in 1988 to show that, years before diagnosis, I was already showing

insulin resistance, in the form of elevated triglycerides and cholesterol.

Upon diagnosis, I worked on a low-fat diet. My blood test results weren't

what I wanted them to be, and I kept on gaining weight.

I lowered my carbohydrate intake at the beginning of 1998. My 1998 and 1999

blood work was done six months and 18 months into low-carbing.

My readings are now optimal. I have never used medications to lower

cholesterol, triglycerides, or glucose levels. In addition, my liver

function improved by two-thirds. (The liver works in concert with the

pancreas to try to normalize glucose levels, and I was stressing both organs

by forcing them to handle too many carbohydrates.)
