Guest guest
We did not know Shyanna had DS before she was born. She was born at 7pm and at 4am, the doctor came in and told us they had been monitoring her oxygen level. They suspected she has DS as well as a heart defect. We were transfered to the neonatal ICU two hours away. She spent 6 days in the ICU until her oxygen level reached normal level, they found the heart defect, and they did the chromosone testing. Guest guest
Katy was in ICU for about 4 days after birth. She had a BM in womb before delivery and they were concerned about her ingesting some at birth - but she didn't - normal delivery, but then was diagnosed on the spot by the neonatal specialist that she had DS (chromosome testing showed MDS) and she was put in ICU because she had some jaundice and a ASD and VSD (which was corrected at 2 1/2 months old). When she could take at least 2 oz. at one feeding they would let me bring her home. It took about 4 days. She had a weak suckling because of the low muscle tone. She slept a lot in the beginning and it was difficult to nurse her because she always went to sleep during feedings. But she was getting some nourishment and growing and gaining weight. At about 2 1/2 months, the heart dr. thought it best to do the heart surgery or risk her lungs being permanently damaged - she did great through the surgery and her activity level increased and she was awake longer - she has been very healthy since and is now 15 years old. Charlotte Siegmund What was the hospital stay for your child immediately following birth? How long did your child stay in the hospital at birth? Were there complications, or none at all? Guest guest
Mahrya came home in the usual amount of time, 2 days I think it was, but was not diagnosed until she was already home with us.
