Guest guest
Hi, Just to let you know that I have also gained a lot of weight when on Prozac. It seemed to met that " healthy " food had no taste anymore. I became a real carbo-fan with bread on top of my list. But it seemed as if I didn't care. I have weened off the prozac now (took it only for 9 months, before I had my wake up call), but am still not able to shift the complete weight. I guess it will take a lot longer for my body to adjust. The big cravings are gone now, so that is better, but my whole system is sluggish. I guess it will also help if you are not too focused on the weight issue. So you are not alone in this. Perhaps some tips from the board on getting the system going and weight loss tips ( am now TRYING to to Weight Watchers Points System. I had gained alot of weight while on prozac over 4.5 years, but i thought it was mostly cuz i was getting older. after stopping i lost 60lbs, but i also changed my diet. still that seems like a drastic change, and i would credit alot of it to the prozac. I think weight gain is listed on the insert as a side effect. -joe
Guest guest
I have been on Prozac for 2 years and gained 40 lbs.....what a disaster. To combat the exhaustion I constantly feel they put me on Provigil. To help with the ups and downs they put me on Lamictal. To help with the weight gain they put me on Topomax. Well I was all screwed up. Topomax caused me to basically be in a fog and not be able to function. The Lamictal gave me muscle pain, mouth sores, and who knows what all else. The Provigil helps with the tiredness but I don't feel comfortable taking a pill for narcalepsie......So I have joined this group for information and help in weaning myself off the rest of these drugs. So far I am off the Topomax and Lamictal, and have cut my prozac and Provigil in half. I am supplementing with St 's Wort. Any thoughts on St 's Wort? As for the weight it is a nightmare! I only proay I can eventually get it off. A similiar weight gain occurred with me when I was on Prednisone for a year....gained 45 lbs. Was able to lose that after a long time. Anyone have trouble with muscle pain, joint pain, and on going ear infections while on the Prozac? Guest guest
I can totally relate to the Prozac weight gain. I have been on Prozac for 10 years and gained 60 pounds. I have just come off Temzapam ~ a benzodiazapine which I was on for 8 years. Since being off for 15 days I have notice my energy level growing. I have been weening myself off the Prozac now for nearly a year and will be off in early Fall. I am currently taking 20mg every other day. I reexamine my emtional / mental status at the end of each month to determine if I should cut again or wait. Since cutting the Prozac and being completely off the Temazepam I have noticed some slight weight loss. However I am alot more physically active as I work in a garden center. As someone stated the craving for carbs and such was certainly something I had and still have which helps pack on the weight. Recently though, I have noted less cravings for carbs and a slow switch back to normal eating ~ chicken, vegies, etc. So I believe that once off the meds and our bodies have healed and adjusted we will lose the weight the Prozac helped us pack on. I am looking forward to 2005 as I will be a new woman as my body will have had a good three months of no meds. > I have been on Prozac for 2 years and gained 40 lbs.....what a disaster. > To combat the exhaustion I constantly feel they put me on Provigil.
