I take cod liver oil year round and do not have toxic levels of vitamin D at all (I have slight above normal, which my PCP thinks is good given that my bone density is on the lower edge of normal). I think everyone absorbs at different rates and some of us do need it year round even when we live in the south/southwest AND are fair skinned - the supposed group that shouldn't need vitamin D supplements in the summer at all.
