Guest guest
kristy.. I would have to dig around...but I'm going by a shady memory... I haven't liked Bill Maher in forever. On his HBO show, a few years ago...he made very rude remarks.... I found it...wanted it to be accurate before i mentioned it... But I've often said that if I had — I have two dogs — if I had two retarded children, I'd be a hero. And yet the dogs, which are pretty much the same thing. What? They're sweet. They're loving. They're kind, but they don't mentally advance at all ... Dogs are like retarded children. — Bill Maher, Politically Incorrect (2001)
Guest guest
Well, that kind of sums up his mentality doesn't it! I am calling him tomorrow to tell him that MY son has an extra chromosome and he is quite intelligent! Thanks Angel for sending this piece to us. I will forward that part along to the others that I sent this to. Thanks! Make that call tomorrow! Kristy LDSAngel77@... wrote: kristy.. Guest guest
This man (and I use the term loosely) has always made me furious. The way he is allow to continously insult our president (whether you are a Bush fan or not, this makes our country look bad) and government across the airwaves is bad enough, but now he is going to insult our children and the rest of the DS world. Enough is enough. I will be calling the station. After reading the article at the site you listed, I read the comments below that people sent in. We are not the only ones offended by his remarks. Something needs to be done about him. Owwww - I am so mad. As you know, just weeks ago, we as a community were able to stop the insults of every person with any form of Down syndrome by the Q92.5 radio station in Ohio, USA. I call you to do this again! Bill Maher has an HBO (cable tv) show. I am not very knowledgeable in Bill Maher's show, but by the looks of the video, it is his job to insult people while he is on air. During a recent show, he was insulting US President Bush and referred to him as having " an extra chromosome " . Bill Maher was making a point of President Bush's intelligence and that is why he made this reference. If you go to www.newsbusters. org/node/ 7505 you can read exactly what he said and view the video. Yes, he could have meant any other chromosomal abnormality, but that is very unlikely. The majority of the population only knows about Down syndrome and is unaware of the other chromosomal abnormalities. Also, he was comparing this to his intelligence, so it is very obvious that he meant Down syndrome. This is not about politics what-so-ever! It is simply that we will not tolerate insults. I suggest that we bombard HBO with calls Monday morning just as we did in Ohio. Tell them that it is intolerable to make jokes about a person with Down syndrome and that we expect a formal (on air) apology immediately or we will begin calling advertisers. Here is the information to reach HBO. Apparently, news busters has now put up a video so you can see exactly what Bil Maher said. You can reach HBO Consumer Affairs at between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Or you can send a letter to: HBO Consumer Affairs 1100 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10036 Forward this message to all of your egroups and email lists. Guest guest
Donna I am not sure if you know it or not, but there is a video that you can watch from that site to see the program where he said what he said. That way you can totally understand what was said and how it was said. I think it helps more than just reading what was said. Guest guest
Kristy - I tried to open the video and it wouldn't open. I am on my computer at work (working hard today ), so I should have enough power to open, but it won't. I will try again. Guest guest
Thank you very much. This will be very interesting news to take to my class that reviews such things like this. I am law students as well as a mother of a child with MDS. We call her baby Krystal. I have been apart of the group and in between homework and research for a speech therapist. I am able to read the comments, but that most definitely struck a nreve with me. My baby girl whose three years of age is my drive to complete law school to make some CHANGES. There are many things that goes on with kids such as our kids and go unheard. Whether it's medically, mentally, physically, etc. That's why I love this group due to many of us not just sitting and accepting substitutes for our kids and their future. I am very unplease with that comment. > > _Bill Maher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia_ > (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Maher) > > It's in the second box down... > > if you do a web search for " bill maher retarded comments " you find all > kinds of stuff...including his " apology " ... > > > ~ANGEL~ > Mom to 13, Mosaic Down Syndrome/Hirschsprung's Disease > Lance 18, Tyler 14, 11 > Jaeda 10 and Shayne 4 > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Thank you. I thought he was a politician, which wouldn't have shocked me either way. This group is doing a very good job with spreading important information and keeping everyone updated. GREAT JOB!!!! A pat on the back for all us hard working parents. > > Not a politician... Guest guest
There has been a time when we had to deal with a politician who put down the whole special needs community. I am glad that IMDSA has the power to stand up to these people and defend our members from such insults. That is what IMDSA is for! To make each and every one of our families feel comfortable in their community. And, our voice is heard much louder when our members stand up and do the same! Kristy crystal4youth wrote: Thank you.
