Guest guest
We keep our valium in the locked drug box aboard the ambulance. The paramedic aboard the unit has the drug key. All drug usages must be documented. Now, the morphine is a little different: more paperwork, DEA stuff, numbered syringes, witnessed waste, etc. Petty, Administrator Channelview Fire Department >From -return-1325-cfd3208=hotmail.comreturns (DOT) Tue Dec 8 02:11:09 1998 >Received: (qmail 7557 invoked by uid 505); 8 Dec 1998 08:11:32 -0000 >Mailing-List: contact -owneregroups >Precedence: list >X-URL: /list// >X-Mailing-List: egroups >Reply-To: egroups >Delivered-To: listsaver-egroups-egroups >Received: (qmail 6912 invoked by uid 7770); 8 Dec 1998 08:11:25 -0000 >Received: from imo18.mx.aol.com (198.81.17.8) > by vault.findmail.com with SMTP; 8 Dec 1998 08:11:25 -0000 >Received: from ApacheEagl@... > by imo18.mx.aol.com (IMOv18.1) id 3OTEa20431 > for <egroups>; Tue, 8 Dec 1998 03:11:14 -0500 (EST) >From: ApacheEagl@... >Message-ID: >Date: Tue, 8 Dec 1998 03:11:14 EST >To: egroups >Mime-Version: 1.0 >X-Mailer: AOL 3.0 16-bit for Windows sub 61 >Subject: [] Valium >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >Just want to ask how does everyone's dept handle controlled substances on the >ambulance such as valium? Guest guest
We sign the narcotics out to the crew each morning through our supply room. The narcs are kept behind two lock doors at all times while on the MICU. The narcs are signed back in at the end of shift and checked by the supply technician. Meds are locked up, but incoming medics are also expected to sign off that these medications were onboard at the beginning of the shift. Guest guest
We do both, a lock box and a sign off sheet. On coming and off going medic must visualize the meds. Guest guest
Graham / Young County EMS has two locks on the MICU for all controlled substances. Senior medics carry the keys and sign off on the inventory sheets at the beginning of each shift. These are checked by the pharmacy techs once a week. Guest guest
We use lock-tab fanny packs that are signed in and out by the medics. If there is not a medic on duty then, we keep the narcs locked up and only Supervisors have the key. So far it has worked out well. At a service that I worked at before we had our units broken into and the narcs stolen on a couple of occasions. The medic pouch makes our medics responsible and in a sense it does show us how responsible our medics really are. Good luck. Guest guest
At Rural Metro Pasadena and Texas City the 24 hour truck keep their narcotics in a lockbox at all times. They are checked by the ongoing and off going crews each morning at shift change. On the day trucks each crew must sign off for them at the beginning of their shift and they are to keep them locked in the lockboxes also. Guest guest
But what happens when you have an unhappy partner? Lock boxes are good, but most all boxes are accessible with a 501 key. I know that many systems are going to carring the narcs on the persons(medics). What do you think of this idea? ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Danny, I work for the ville Fire Department and we do a sign off between the medics on each shift for the drugs on the ambulance and a lock box for the bulk drugs(controlled). Guest guest
Danny At Liberty County EMS all of our narcotics are under two locks per MICU truck. A sign-in sheet to be signed by each off-going and on-coming paramedic no matter when they change shifts. Relief crew's also have to do the same thing. Guest guest
Here at Calhoun county, we have built into the ambulance a cabinet with a inside and outside door. This serves as a double lock box. The inside and the outside door are keyed the same with a special key similar to those you see on beverage machines. The keys have to be special ordered. We are the only ones with the exact key number. Each morning a member from the off going and on coming crews check the meds and sign a drug sheet that is forwarded to our hospital pharmacy. Guest guest
I have a question along these same lines, how are different services keeping up with storeroom inventory. Drugs and supplies. Check-out book, bar code system, etc.??? Please give me some feedback or e-mail me direct. Our system is just not working for a system handling 6,000 calls a year. Thanks!!!!! Guest guest
We track inventory on the computer using Quickbooks. Items are written down when removed from the storeroom. Main problem: you can only track what people write down or scan. If the person in charge of inventory is the only one with a key to the inventory, you might reduce problems, but I doubt it. Hope this helps. Joe K. Overstreet San Marcos / Hays Co. EMS, Inc. I have a question along these same lines, how are different services keeping up with storeroom inventory.
