Guest guest
Dear Dawn, You said: <<As I told you all before, I have been having a lot of trouble with my stomach. I followed up with my doctor today. He ordered some new blood tests and is having me sent for something called a HIDA scan. This is to determine whether my gallbladder is emptying properly. If this comes up negative, he says there is nothing more he can do for me. At this point, I am seriously considering going back up on my Remeron till all this is settled. I have been having anxiety more days than not and am having a lot of trouble focusing on my work. I have not been taking the Ativan daily because I don't want to have to do a taper on it. It's in my " emergency only " spot in the cabinet. >> ** It seems that you may have dropped the Remeron too much. I would increase it a litle. 5% of the lasst 10% drop maybe. You said: <<I know that GI symptoms are common during withdrawal. In the past, though, I have not had trouble with them until about two weeks have passed on the new dose. In this case, they actually started before I cut the 10% off (because of the change in acid reflux medicine) and have continued pretty steadily. I really need to get all this under control. >> ** The problem here is two-fold. The drug withdrawal DOES cause GI distress while the acid reflux medicine interferes in the normal production of enzymes in your stomach. I would look at reducing the GI drug when taking the probiotic I mentioned. Ultimately, you want to get off the acid reflux drug as soon as you are able. While taking it you are limited in your ability to digest foods. This leaves you vulnerable to many illnesses including food poisoning because the food is sitting in you putrifying. Do you have a local natural food store? If so, grab a bottle of Carbo Vegetabilis 30C the next time you go there. Take 2 pellets sublingually after eating. What schedule are you on for the acid reflux drug? Regards, You said: << The probiotic recommended should be here any day now. I have taken the calcium and magnesium twice daily as my stomach can tolerate it. But I am down to one small meal a day. I've lost 5 pounds in the last three weeks. I can definitely stand to lose the weight, but I'm not sure how healthy doing it this way is.>> ** You're right; it's not healthy. another thing you may find helpful is Original Limu. It is very soothing on the stomach. Cheryl can jump in here and tell you more about it. , you often talk about listening to your body. What are all these GI symptoms trying to tell me? This on top of the anxiety is making my life very difficult now. I still have five more weeks of school to get through. I need the strength to get through this period. Any words of encouragement or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Guest guest
Dawn: GI problems are very common with Remeron, just read the Remeron boards and you'll see. People have stomach problems while on it, reducing it, and even after they've stopped taking it. As Breggin says, "Your Drug May Be Your Problem." (title of his book) "Blind Reason" a novel of pharmaceutical intrigue Think your antidepressant is safe? Think again. It's Unsafe At Any Dose

I will take a look today and see if I can find some. I am taking Nexium 40 mg. at bedtime now, and when I went to the ER over the weekend, the docs told me to add Pepcid at the same time. I ended up giving in and taking the Ativan last night. I got to sleep rather quickly but did not sleep well. I woke up early this morning with anxiety and GI symptoms. " (title of his book) When I was on the full dose (15 mg), it cleared up my stomach problems. It's been since I started trying to reduce that the problems have come back. When I started taking this drug, my whole GI system was in terrible shape from the pregnancy and hyperemesis. I hadn't been able to eat a meal in 2 months. For some reason, it not only calmed my stomach down, but also gave me a ravenous appetite (hence the weight gain). I am reading Breggin's book right now. So far it seems to contain sensible advice.
