Guest guest
Parents Workshop on SSI / Medicaid set for 11/ 20 Last Call The National PASS Network announces its Fall Parents Saturday Workshop for 2010 on accessing Social Security disability, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid benefits on Saturday, November 20, 2010 in Austin, Texas at The Arc of Texas. With the national economy crashing down all around us, parents of children with lifelong disabilities desperately need cash resources and medical supports they can control and count on. SSI and Medicaid are more important than ever in this Recession as families and people with disabilities struggle with federal and state budget and Medicaid cutbacks and the real need for cash assistance and medical supports and services. The National PASS Network has been providing self-help disability benefit and Medicaid access case-management services and educational outreach to families with children with lifelong disabilities for nearly 28 years. Parents and professionals from all around Texas and the country attend the parent workshops. The workshop ÒAccessing Social Security Disability Benefits to Provide Opportunities for Self-Support for People with DisabilitiesÓ is a must for families who need to plan and learn how to access these important federal disability benefit support programs for their children of any age. Don't put off any longer this chance to get this important information! A complete Training Agenda for the Parents Saturday Workshop can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/NPN-Agenda . The Social Security disability programs provide many positive opportunities for children, young adults and older adults with disabilities, but these opportunities are available only if parents know about the programs and know how to access them. The Social Security Administration does not come looking for you. If you donÕt know about these benefit programs, these resources can not and will not help your child. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN The Parent Saturday Workshop provides families with a comprehensive consumer background on how the federal disability benefit programs work (and don't work) and how to access the programs; what the eligibility requirements are for all the Social Security disability programs; how to calculate eligibility; and how to make sure that you receive the full amount of your SSI eligibility. Participants will learn how to use the variety of helpful programs like the Plans for Achieving Self-Support (PASS ) as your child begins transition employment in high school to preserve benefits and pay for needed services. You will learn how to make sure Social Security pays the full amount of SSI. Most parents only get 2/3 of SSI eligibility for their adult child who lives at home. You will learn how to advocate for benefits with denial-oriented SSA claims representatives. The comprehensive workshop is also appropriate for parents for future planning to preserve SSI, Medicaid eligibility benefits as their child grows older. For a more detailed explanation of the workshop and the many comments parents who have attended the workshops have to say about the Parents Saturday Workshops go to our full online brochure at http://bit.ly/NPNWksp . YOUR COURSE LEADER The parents workshop is presented by longtime national disability benefit advocate Scarborough. His easy-to-understand, non-technical and graphic-rich presentation style emphasizes a person-first, consumer empowerment approach to understanding and accessing the complicated Social Security disability benefit and long-term care programs for adults and children.
