Guest guest
I think you need a doctor note but you could try without. Go by guest relations as soon as you get in and get the handicapped pass to avoid the long lines. We are going in Feb. and our dr. is giving us a note. I have also heard that if your child is on a special diet if you let the restaurant/chef know ahead of time they can make special things. > > Hi, > > We are taking my 7 year old with " high functioning " autism to Disney. > Does anyone have any suggestions that may be helpful? Guest guest
Disney is awesome! If you are on the diet, they are great about food allergies. At table service restaurants, let them know when you make reservations if possible. They send out the chef who will explain your options. You don't need a note for the Guest Assistance Pass. The Guest Assistance areas are at the front of the parks in all four parks. Our almost four year old is pretty good about things so this past trip we mostly did fast passes or went on rides with shorter lines and we were fine, but we will be using it when we have to go during Spring Break some day! For us, flying and getting through security was the most stressful part. Security has their own ideas about how things should go. Next time I will be very quick to explain that my son has autism. I think that will make it easier. They expected that he would be able to go through the detector without touching the sides. You have got to be kidding me! Most typical three year olds can't do that, much less my extremely sensory seeking kiddo!! Have a great trip! I'm so jealous! It's freezing up in Michigan. Guest guest
We just went in Dec. It was great...this is the 3rd time with our AU son. For some reason this tiime, everything frightened him. I guess his awareness is increasing which is a very positive thing!! We used the Special Pass, but had to wait in line for 30-45 min SEVERAL times. But, he did great, we brought his Leapster and he sat quietly and played with it while we waited in line. One thing though, please don't abuse the priviledge that Disney is giving you. I've seen people take advantage of the system and they are the reason that Disney almost revoked offering a pass to children with Autism a few years ago.
