Guest guest
It could be wind currents. At night sound travels farther than you think compared to the daytime. The location of the bedroom and the dinning room are aligned with the source of the music. Sometimes I hear voices in conversation. Once I tracked it to a couple in their backyard three doors down. Other times I don't know who is talking outside at 2or3 o'clock in the morning unless it is the wind playing tricks. Drives you crazy, doesn't it? ~~Bonnie --- Holthaus wrote: > At night, usually between 10pm and midnight, I can > hear barely audible > music coming from the west. Guest guest
In general, yes, sound travels better at night, because (in general) humidity levels are higher at night than during the day, and sound travels farther through humid air. Other factors could be wind currents, fewer competing sounds during the night, particular frequency resonances peculiar to your specific situation (this last part is over my head, to be honest). Although, when I was a kid, I actually did get radio reception through the braces on my teeth once--it was a Top 40 radio station in Myrtle Beach. It was very, very strange to hear the song " The Night Chicago Died " coming from the inside of my mouth. Here's a web page that has links to technical aspects of sound attenuation, if anyone here is so inclined: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/phy00/phy00591.htm This is a very interesting list. So far, I like it here. There are a lot of things in my house that vibrate (and thus make sounds) in resonance with various kinds of traffic outside. Sometimes it can be very annoying or even painful. It's almost certainly something with an amplifier in it. It's probably picking up a local radio station. Without an electrical amplifier of some kind, your house won't pick it up. You're looking for something like: - A TV - A stereo - Computer speakers - Baby monitor - Some types of telephones It's probably in the room you hear it in. If you unplug each of these, you'll eventually discover it, if my theory is right. --

Guest guest
Why would I only hear it between 10 and midnight? wrote: > > > > Are you saying that the home appliances you listed can > > be the unknown music source??? > > Yes, they'll pick up strong radio signals and amplify them through their > speakers. > > -- > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > *
Guest guest
10 O'clock because things get quiet and you go to bed around there? I am not sure. Midnight because some radio stations will reduce power at midnight. -- > Date: Tue, 01 Feb 2005 06:40:19 -0900 > > Reply-To: AutisticSpectrumTreeHouse > To: AutisticSpectrumTreeHouse > Subject: Re: What could this be from? > > > Why would I only hear it between 10 and midnight? > > wrote: > > > > > > > > Are you saying that the home appliances you listed can > > > be the unknown music source??? > > > > Yes, they'll pick up strong radio signals and amplify them through their > > speakers. > > > > -- > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > *
Guest guest
I am wondering how much dental work you have? It has been known to pick up sounds. Kim
Guest guest
No dental work at all. Someone suggested that it could be anything electronic with speakers. I haven't tested that theory yet, but I plan to. Everyone gave such good suggestions! Having ideas of what it might be makes it bug me less. Yay! @LyndaHoboken wrote: > > I am wondering how much dental work you have? It has been known to > pick up sounds. > Kim > > >
